UFC 168 PAY-PER-VIEW CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 12/27/2013 11:20 AM

As we get closer and closer to the end of 2013, we get one of the biggest events of the year this Saturday Night from the UFC. The year-end UFC event will be headlined by a pair of title rematches in the middleweight and women’s bantamweight divisions. Also, there are a pair of potential title eliminators in the heavyweight and featherweight divisions.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Diego “DB” Brandao (18-8-0) competes against Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier (14-3-0). Brandao will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, last defeating Daniel Pineda at UFC Fight Night 26. Poirier has rotated wins and losses in his last five fights, with his last fight being a victory over Erik Koch at UFC 164. Poirier’s gas tank is far superior when compared to Brandao, which is what will carry him to a second straight victory.

A lightweight division attraction is next as Fabricio “Morango” Camoes (14-7-1) is in action against Jim Miller (22-4-0-1NC). Camoes has won one of four in his two UFC runs, with that lone victory coming over Tommy Hayden at UFC On FX I. Miller has won only two of his last five fights, with a notable victory over Joe Lauzon via decision at UFC 155. This is a must win situation for both competitors, but it will be Miller defeating the overmatched Camoes.

Heavyweight division action is taking place next as Josh “The War Master” Barnett (33-6-0) battles Travis “Hapa” Browne (15-1-1). Barnett is currently undefeated in his second UFC run, having defeated Frank Mir by first round TKO at UFC 164. Browne has won five of his last six under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Alistair Overeem at UFC Fight Night 26. The winner of this fight could be next in line for a title shot and it will be Browne pulling the upset to get that shot.

Up next is a UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title Fight as champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (7-0-0) defends against Miesha “Cupcake” Tate (13-4-0). Rousey won the first encounter between the two when she submitted Tate at Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Tate in March 2012. Tate has won one of two fights since the initial meeting, with that lone win coming over Julie Kedzie at Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman. Tate will be putting up a much better fight this time around, but Rousey will still be submitting her with an arm bar in the end.

Headlining this event is a UFC Middleweight Title Fight as champion Chris “All-American” Weidman (10-0-0) puts the belt on the line against Anderson “The Spider” Silva (33-5-0). Weidman won the initial meeting between the two, as well as the title, when he knocked out Silva at UFC 162. Silva had his seventeen fight winning streak snapped at UFC 162 and this will be the first time he challenged for a title since meeting Rich Franklin at UFC 64. Weidman shocked the world in their first encounter when he knocked out Silva, but lightning will be striking twice when he beats Silva again.
