CAGE WARRIORS 63 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 12/30/2013 12:54 PM

The last MMA event of 2013 is set for this coming Tuesday and it is Cage Warriors 63, the event will stream live and free on MMAJunkie.com. The event will be headlined by a pair of title fights in both the lightweight and featherweight divisions respectively. Also, UFC veteran John Maguire makes his promotional debut and WMMA mainstay Aisling Daly competes.

Kicking off the action is a women’s flyweight division fight as Karla Benitez (11-5-0-1NC) competes against Aisling “Ais The Bash” Daly (13-5-0). Benitez will make her promotional debut after winning three of her last four fights, plus she has fought female MMA legend Megumi Fujii. Daly will enter the fight riding a three fight losing streak and she has not won a fight in well over two years. Daly was near the top of the female MMA mountain several years back and she will finally return to form with a victory over Benitez.

Lightweights will be stepping into the cage next as Paul “Redser” Redmond (8-3-0) does battle with Mateusz Teodorczuk (10-2-0). Redmond is currently undefeated in Cage Warriors competition, last defeating Marc Allen at Cage Warriors 55. Teodorczuk will make his promotional debut riding an eight fight winning streak, last defeating UFC veteran Ross Pointon at Celtic Gladiator MMA VI. Teodorczuk has a lot of hype surrounding him as he makes his Cage Warriors debut and he will live up to the hype to grab the victory.

The Cage Warriors Featherweight Title is on the line next as champion Jim “The Beast” Alers (11-1-0) defends against Graham “Afterburner” Turner (23-7-0). Alers will be making the second defense of his championship, last defending it against Martin Svensson at Cage Warriors 59. Turner earned an opportunity for a title shot after defeating Nad Narimani by split decision at Cage Warriors 56. This is easily the biggest challenge in both fighters’ careers, but it will be Turner taking the belt away from Alers in the end.

Up next is a welterweight division contest as John “The One” Maguire (18-6-0) battles Philip “Honey Badger” Mulpeter (6-3-0). Maguire will be competing for the first time since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Mitch Clarke at UFC 161. Mulpeter will be looking to build on the momentum of his first Cage Warriors victory, which came over Warren Kee at Cage Warriors 56. Mulpeter is a talented fighter, but Maguire is on another level and it will show as he makes a successful promotional debut.

Headlining this card is a Cage Warriors Lightweight Title bout as champion Steven “Braveheart” Ray (14-4-0) puts the belt on the line against Ivan “Buki” Buchinger (24-4-0). Ray will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Sean Carter in a tournament final at Cage Warriors 60. Buchinger earned a shot at the championship when he defeated Mick Sinclair by submission at Cage Warriors 60. This is a great fight that will cap of a great 2013 for MMA fans everywhere, but it will be Ray keeping the belt in the end.
