For the first time in the long history of the UFC, there will be an event that will not be airing live on free TV or pay-per-view. That is because the UFC debut of the final Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Tarec Saffiedine only happens on the UFC Fight Pass. Also, the legendary Tatsuya Kawajiri makes his UFC debut and other top prospects will enter the octagon.
Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division affair as Kyung Ho “Mr. Perfect†Kang (11-7-0-1NC) competes against Shunichi Shimizu (28-8-10). Kang is currently winless in UFC competition, fighting Alex Caceres to a no contest and dropping a fight to Chico Camus. Shimizu will be making his UFC debut in this fight and will be doing so while riding a five fight winning streak. Kang may have more UFC experience, but Shimizu is the better fighter and that will show when he gets the win.
A pair of welterweights will be in action next as Luiz “Besouro†Dutra (11-2-1) battles Kiichi “Strasser†Kunimoto (15-5-2-1NC). Dutra will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he does hold a victory over UFC veteran Fabricio Camoes. Kunimoto will also be making his UFC debut in this fight after a successful four fight run in the Heat promotion. This fight has the potential to be the show stealer for the entire card, but it will be Dutra getting a win in his UFC debut.
Up next is a featherweight division contest as Tatsuya “Crusher†Kawajiri (32-7-2) takes on Sean Soriano (8-0-0). Kawajiri will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he does so on the strength of a five fight winning streak. Soriano will also be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is the current Championship Fighting Alliance Featherweight Champion. Kawajiri’s UFC debut in probably bigger than the actual main event of this card and he will live up to the hype by handing Soriano his first loss.
Headlining this card is a welterweight division contest as Tarec “Sponge†Saffiedine (14-3-0) faces Hyun Gyu “The Ace†Lim (12-3-1). Saffiedine will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he was the final Strikeforce Welterweight Champion. Lim is currently undefeated in UFC competition, defeating both Marcelo Guimaraes and Pascal Krauss. Saffiedine is the final Strikeforce Champion to make his UFC debut and he will show that the wait was worth it when he wins in the main event.
