1/4 TRADITIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING REPORT

By Nathan Favel on 1/4/2014 10:16 AM

Welcome back to another edition of TCW! We have a great night ahead of us, so let’s get to it.

Sigmon vs. Vordell Walker – 30- Minute Ironman Match

This was an intense bout with considerable length that really hammered home my love for technical wrestling. With every grapple, with every hold, I was able to quench my thirst for a more methodical kind of wrestling match, and for that, I’m truly grateful. It’s matches like this one that make me glad that I take the time to write these reviews about independent wrestling, as it seems that little gems like these are plentifully inhabiting the world that is the “indy circuit”. Both men had another great encounter tonight and you should definitely seek it out.

Winner: Sigmon

Our post-match minutes found the two opponents teasing a handshake of mutual respect, but Sigmon, being the little troublemaker that he is, psyched him out instead. They definitely have something with these matches and I hope this isn’t the last in their series.

Col. Parker (without Elvis mind you) made it known that he was putting his control of the company on the line against The Empire, next week. The Empire then came out and accepted that challenge the way any respectable person does… by beating the saliva out of the man. Despite being yet another in-ring talking segment, this was done well enough to get my interest in the match-up to come.

Main Event: Lance Hoyt vs. Steve Anthony

This was another very physical match from Lance here, with Anthony having a good showing as well. It’s strange how a man like Lance can work in TNA and the WWE and can only get so small a spotlight put on him, yet when he travels to this company or to New Japan Pro Wrestling (the second largest wrestling promotion in the world) he shines as brightly as possible. It just makes you wonder if the American major leagues are really worth being a part of, if you can’t even get a legitimate chance to shine, like both men do here. Some very fluid work by Anthony helped to highlight Hoyt’s power-based style, which continues to impress after all these years. Anthony got the final moment of the broadcast dedicated to him, as he gained an upset victory over Lance Hoyt.

Winner: Steve Anthony

Overall, I had a great time with tonight’s card, as it featured impeccable action that was truly worthwhile.

Thanks for reading and I'll see you next time.
