LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 27 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 1/28/2014 3:19 PM

The MMA weekend may by ending with a UFC pay-per-view, but it will begin with another top notch card from the Legacy Fighting Championships. The event will be headlined by a key welterweight division bout as UFC veteran Tim Means faces Artenas Young. Also, undefeated MMA prospect Henry Cejudo is in action and middleweight prospect Larry Crowe will step into the cage.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division battle as Kamarudeen “Marty” Usman (2-1-0) competes against Steven Rodriguez (2-1-0). Usman will be making his Legacy FC debut in this fight and he has only had one career fight go past the opening round. Rodriguez is currently undefeated in Legacy FC competition, having defeated Devin Christopherson at Legacy FC 25. Rodriguez has faced better competition at this point in his career when compared to Usman, which is what will carry him to a win.

A pair of bantamweights will be competing next as Caio Machado (3-0-0) is in action against Domingo “El Nino” Pilarte (3-0-0). Machado will be making his Legacy FC debut in this fight and he is a multi-fight veteran of the Carpina Fighting Championships promotion. Pilarte has won his past Legacy FC bout, having defeated Ricardo Delgado by knockout at Legacy FC 15. Pilarte has been inactive for over a year prior to his return, which is something Machado will capitalize on to remain undefeated.

Lightweights will be stepping into the cage next as Charles Cheeks III (7-2-0) does battle against Alex Black (5-3-0). Cheeks III will be making his Legacy FC debut in this fight and will be doing so while riding a six fight winning streak. Black is returning to Legacy FC after being away for more than a year, but he has won two fights in between appearances. Cheeks III has been on an incredible roll headlining into this fight and that roll is going to continue when he defeats Black.

We move to the middleweight division for the next bout as Terrance Ferguson (2-1-0) battles Larry “Tae Kwon” Crowe (7-3-0). Ferguson is returning to action after being away for over a year, with his last fight being a victory over Patrick Hutton at Legacy FC 14. Crowe has rotated wins and losses in his last five Legacy FC bouts, with his last fight being a win over Jon Kirk at Legacy FC 25. Ferguson is hugely outmatched in this one and it will show as Crowe cruises to his eight victory in this one.

Up next is a flyweight division attraction as Elias “Smash” Garcia (4-0-0) will be taking on Henry Cejudo (5-0-0). Garcia has won his lone previous Legacy FC appearance, which came over Matt Schnell by decision at Legacy FC 20. Cejudo also won in his lone Legacy FC appearance, with that victory coming over Ryan Hollis at Legacy FC 24. This bout could have major implications when it concerns both fighters futures, but it will be Cejudo outwrestling Garcia to remain undefeated.

Headlining this card is a welterweight division affair as Tim “The Dirty Bird” Means (19-5-1) faces Artenas “The Machine Gun” Young (10-6-0). Means has been undefeated since his UFC release, having defeated UFC veteran Pete Spratt at Legacy FC 23. Young has won two of his last three fights, which includes a victory over Jonathan Harris at Legacy FC 25. Means has faced far better competition than his opponent on Friday Night and Means will notch another win to get a return trip to the UFC.
