Longtime UFC veteran Thiago Silva is currently being held in a Broward County prison after being arrested by Broward County police officers and SWAT team members. According to reports, Silva threatened to “shoot up†the Pablo Popovitch MMA Academy if his estranged wife Thaysa Silva and Pablo Popovitch (who she trains with) if they did not come outside. Popovitch then called the police and Silva quickly barricaded himself in his home, which is where the standoff with police and SWAT took place.
Silva is being held at the moment with a $2,500,100 bond and there is concern that he will flee to his native Brazil if released prior to a trial. Following the entire incident, Silva was then released by the UFC and his scheduled UFC 171 bout against Ovince St. Preux has been cancelled. UFC President Dana White even stated to various media outlets that Silva will never have the opportunity to compete in the UFC again.
