LOS ANGELES, CA – The following quotes are from tonight’s FOX SPORTS LIVE UFC FIGHT NIGHT: MACHIDA VS. MOUSASI postfight coverage on FOX SPORTS 1. The show was hosted by Mike Hill, with Dominick Cruz and Brian Stann as analysts.
UFC ON FOX Analyst Dominick Cruz on Lyoto Machida’s victory over Gegard Mousasi: “The high kicks from Machida were just perfect. That dictated the fight. Machida does what he always does. He’s smart, he uses his footwork so well and he never sits still. His left hand and high kick just hold people off. You can’t do anything to him from the outside or the inside position.”
UFC ON FOX Analyst Brian Stann on what set Machida above Mousasi: “We knew it would be an extremely technical battle between the two of them. The kicks of Machida were a factor all night long. The quickness of Machida was very impressive. He moved really well. Gegard is a tough fighter.”
Cruz on Machida getting better and better: “Machida continues to evolve. He attempted three takedowns and he never goes for takedowns. It’s very difficult to fight him. He does everything just right. He uses kicks, then jabs and can switch stance. He fights in a southpaw stance, but circles to the left, which is completely wrong, but it works.
Lyoto Machida on hurting his foot during the fight: “I don’t know what happened. I did some kicking and he defended with his knee. I don’t know if I broke my foot. I didn’t think about my foot during the fight, I just tried to keep my focus on the fight. He’s a tough opponent. But he kept his hand down. I saw I could kick his head, leg and body. I had confidence in my kicks.”
Machida on fighting at middleweight: “Now I’ve found my weight. There are a lot of big guys at 205. Now I’m a big guy. I can fight everybody with my technique, strength and power.”
Machida on if he deserves the title shot: “I don’t know. Dana White is the boss and can decide everything. I think I deserve the title shot. We’ll see.”

Cruz on Jacare Souza’s victory over Francis Carmont: “Carmont showed how much he practiced his submission defense tonight. Souza controlled him the entire fight, but this was control at its purest form. Give credit to Jacare because he took down Carmont, and Carmont is one of the hardest in the division to take down.”
Jacare Souza on his victory over Carmont: “I’m very happy. I knew he was a tough fighter. He was able to hold the submissions off. I really wanted to go for the submission and it was a tough fight.”
Souza on if he thinks he should get a title shot: “I deserve one, but if the UFC doesn’t think so, and the UFC wants to give me another fight, I’ll fight anyone.”

Erick Silva on his victory over Sato: “I’m very happy. I’ve been training so much that my coaches were telling me not to train so much. I had to train behind their backs. I took my last defeat as my motivation for this fight.”
Silva on if he trained for the kick he used to end the fight: “I trained those kicks a lot, more than a 100 times a day. I trained the heel kicks, too. I couldn’t show ten percent of what I trained for tonight because I’ve trained so much.”
