WORLD SERIES OF FIGHT CANADA I MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 2/17/2014 8:51 PM

Despite airing via tape delay a week later on NBC Sports, the World Series Of Fighting Canada I card is happening this Friday Night. The event will be headlined by a battle between Ryan Ford and Joel Powell to crown the inaugural WSOF Canada Welterweight Champion. There are four other fights on the main card, including a battle between a former title challenger and a top amateur wrestler.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division fight as Mark Drummond (5-1-0) competes against Brandt Dewsbery (10-3-1). Drummond will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak and he has spent his entire career in the Unified MMA promotion. Dewsbery comes into the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not won a bout in well over a year. Drummond has been on an incredible run headlining into this fight and that run will continue as he hands Dewsbery his third straight loss.

A pair of featherweights will clash next as Josh Machan (11-4-0) will be in action against Adam Lorenz (7-3-0). Machan will step into the cage riding a four fight winning streak, with his last loss coming to UFC veteran Mitch Clarke. Lorenz will be returning to action after being away for more than a year and he has not won a fight in almost three years. Lorenz picked the wrong opponent to return to action against as Machan will spoil his return by gaining the victory.

More welterweight action is up next as Michael “The Messenger” Hill (6-2-0) takes on Ryan Dickson (6-1-0). Hill is currently undefeated under the WSOF banner, having defeated Richard Arsenault by TKO at the WSOF VII. Dickson had a two fight campaign in 2013 and he only got a single victory, defeating Advin Omic at Havoc Fighting Championships III. Hill looked impressive in his WSOF debut a few months back and he will look impressive again when he defeats Dickson.

Up next is a heavyweight division attraction as Smealinho “The Prince” Rama (6-1-0) battles Steve Mocco (4-0-0). Smealinho will be competing for the first time since losing an MFC Heavyweight Title fight to Anthony Hamilton at MFC 38. Mocco is an accomplished amateur wrestler who has already defeated Bellator veteran Lew Polley at Resurrection Fighting Alliance IX. Rama is only effective when the fight is standing and Mocco is going to ground him to get the victory in this one.

Headlining this card is a bout for the inaugural WSOF Welterweight Title as Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford (21-4-0) battles Joel Powell (7-3-0). Ford will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak, which includes an undefeated run in Bellator. Powell will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and he is a veteran of the Aggression Fighting Championships promotion. Ford has been waiting for an opportunity to break through on a bigger stage and he will finally break through when he defeats Powell to win the gold.
