LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 28 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 2/18/2014 9:44 PM

In between the debut of WSOF Canada and UFC 170 will be another excellent card from the Legacy Fighting Championships. The six fight main card will be worth watching, but unfortunately, none of the preliminary card bouts will be seen by anyone other than those in attendance. Either way, there are a lot of interesting fights on the preliminary card and four fighters who will be making their pro debuts.

Kicking off the action is a middleweight division attraction as Phil Hawes (0-0-0) competes against Brian Cheatham (0-2-0). Hawes will be making his professional MMA debut and he did have an undefeated run as an amateur. Cheatham is currently winless as a professional fighter, having spent his whole career until this point in the Xtreme Knockouts promotion. Hawes had a great run as an amateur and he will start off his pro career in a great way when he defeats Cheatham.

A pair of featherweights will duke it out next as James “Thunder” Polodna (1-1-0) does battle against Nikon “Kronphet Janjira” Poowichai (0-0-0). Polodna will be looking to build off the momentum of his first pro MMA win, which came over Tristan Kalijundzic at a March 2013 Wreck MMA event. Poowichai will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, with very little amateur experience to speak of. With little about Poowichai known at this point, the safe bet to go with will be Polodna and that is who I will go with in this one.

More middleweight division action is up next as Derek Perkins (1-2-0) is in action against Logan Nail (0-0-0). Perkins will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in almost a full year. Nail will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did have an undefeated run as an amateur fighter. Perkins has been on a pretty bad run as of late and that bad run is going to continue when Nail makes a successful pro debut.

Another middleweight division bout is next as Jason Perrota (0-0-0) stands across the cage from Bobby Moore (0-1-0). Perrota will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did go winless competing as an amateur. Moore is currently winless as a professional MMA fighter, dropping a fight to Evan Thompson at Legacy FC 16. Both fighters have been inactive for well over a year at this point, but it will be Moore picking up his first professional victory in the end.

Yet another middleweight division battle is on the card as Victor Reyna (3-1-0) battles Lior Shporen (0-1-0). Reyna will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and he has yet to have a fight go to the judge’s scorecard. Shporen is currently winless as a professional MMA fighter, losing a fight to Sean Holden at Legacy FC 13. This bout is a huge mismatch in various ways, which is why the far better Reyna is going to dominate Shporen to win his third straight.

Up next is a welterweight division affair as Melvin Jordan (1-1-0) will be in action against Sean Holden (2-0-0). Jordan will be looking to build off the momentum of his first pro MMA win, which came over Patrick Hutton at Legacy FC 25. Holden is returning to action after being away for well over a year, last competing at Legacy FC 13 in a winning effort over Lior Shporen. Holden may have the better record, but his time away from the cage will cost him as Jordan wins his second pro bout.

Headlining this portion of the card is a bantamweight division bout as Ray “El Torito” Rodriguez (4-3-0) faces Steven “Ocho” Peterson (9-4-0). Rodriguez has rotated wins and losses in his last six bouts, with his last bout being a loss to Chris Pecero at Legacy FC 26. Peterson has won three of five under the Legacy FC banner, but he has only won one of his last three bouts. This is a main card worthy bout, but it will be Peterson returning to form when he defeats Rodriguez in this bout.
