BELLATOR 111 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/4/2014 3:00 PM

Kicking off another big weekend of mixed martial arts action will be this Friday Night's Bellator 111 card. The event will be headlined by a title bout as Bellator Bantamweight Champion Eduardo Dantas faces Anthony Leone. Also, notables such as Lavar Johnson, Mighty Mo and Ryan Martinez will be competing in the opening round of the heavyweight tournament.

Kicking off the action is a heavyweight tournament opening round bout as Mark “The Machine” Holata (12-4-0) competes against Alexander “Drago” Volkov (19-4-0). Holata has won three of five under the Bellator banner, but he has not competed in well over a full year. Volkov won the season eight heavyweight tournament, but then lost his title bout to Vitaly Minakov at Bellator 108. Volkov knows what it takes to win the Bellator tournament and he will use that experience to defeat Holata.

More heavyweight tournament opening round action is up next as Peter “The Chief” Graham (9-6-0) battles Siala-Mou “Mighty Mo” Siliga (5-2-0). Graham made it to the finals of the season nine heavyweight tournament finals before losing to UFC veteran Cheick Kongo. Siliga is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, defeating the duo of Dan Charles and Ron Sparks respectively. Siliga has seen a career resurgence since coming to Bellator and that resurgence is going to continue when he advances to the semi-finals.

Up next is a heavyweight tournament opening round bout as Lavar “Big” Johnson (17-8-0) takes on Ryan Martinez (10-3-0). Johnson competed in the season nine heavyweight tournament, losing to Vinicius De Queirioz in the opening round. Martinez made it to the finals of the 2013 Bellator Summer Series heavyweight tournament before losing to Vitaly Minakov. Johnson seems to get put out with the softest of blows and Martinez throws nothing but hard shots, which will put Johnson back on the shelf.

Headlining this card is a Bellator Bantamweight Title bout as champion Eduardo “Dudu” Dantas (15-3-0) defends against Andrew Leone (6-2-0). Dantas will be making the second defense of his championship, he previously defended it against Marcos Galvao at Bellator 89. Leone is a late replacement for the injured Rafael Silva, but he has experience competing in the One FC promotion. Dantas is one of the greatest bantamweights not in the UFC right now and he will dominate Leone to keep the gold.
