RESURRECTION FIGHTING ALLIANCE 13 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/5/2014 9:17 PM

Becoming a player in the Resurrection Fighting Alliance is quickly becoming a great way to punch a ticket to the UFC. This Friday Night's event will be headlined by a lightweight division bout as UFC veteran Efrain Escudero faces TUF alumni Dakota Cochrane. Also, a middleweight title top contender will be anointed and top rated Chidi Njokuani will be in action.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division attraction as Darrick Minner (7-3-0) competes against Austin Lyons (10-2-0). Minner is currently undefeated in RFA competition, having defeated William Osborne by decision at RFA X. Lyons will be making his RFA debut in this fight, but he has only competed one time in the last two years. Lyons inactivity is going to cost him in this one as Minner remains undefeated in RFA competition in the end.

A pair of lightweights will duel next as TJ “The Carnivore” Hepburn (2-0-0) is in action against Ryan Shell (5-0-0). Hepburn is returning to the RFA after a year-plus absence, previously defeating Jeremy Miler at RFA III. Shell is a veteran of the Disorderly Conduct MMA promotion and he has only had one fight go to a decision. This is a great battle of undefeated competitors on this card, but it will be Shell remaining undefeated in the end.

Featherweight division action will be happening next as Dan “The Hitman” Moret (6-0-0) does battle against Luke Sanders (6-0-0). Moret has one previous bout under the RFA banner, which was a decision victory over Jose Pacheco at RFA VIII. Sanders will be making his RFA debut in this fight, but he has spent some time in the Strikeforce promotion. There is nothing wrong with a second “battle of the undefeated” on the card, but this one will see Sanders walk away with his streak intact.

We move to the welterweight division next as Chidi “Chidi Bang Bang” Njokuani (10-4-0) battles Chris Heatherly (7-1-0). Njokuani has won two of three under the RFA banner, with a notable victory over Bobby Cooper at RFA III. Heatherly will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with his last victory coming over TUF alumni Dakota Cochrane. Njokuani is quickly becoming the next big prospect in the MMA scene and he will show why when he defeats Heatherly.

Up next is a middleweight division fight as Miles Marshall (3-1-0) takes on Andrew “El Dirte” Sanchez (4-0-0). Marshall is currently undefeated in RFA competition, having defeated Jordan Sanford by submission at RFA X. Sanchez has also competed once under the RFA banner, with his victory coming over Todd Meredith at RFA XI. The winner of this fight will get a middleweight title shot and it will be the undefeated Sanchez getting that shot.

Headlining this card is a lightweight division bout as Dakota Cochrane (15-5-0) faces Efrain Escudero (21-7-0). Cochrane has won three of five fights under the RFA banner, most notably defeating Joe Stevenson at RFA III. Escudero will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, which includes a win over WSOF veteran Luis Palomino. The winner of this bout will find themselves a step closer to a UFC return and it will be Escudero getting that win for a potential return.
