UFC FIGHT NIGHT 37 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/7/2014 10:32 AM

Capping off another big weekend of MMA action will be a loaded UFC Fight Night 37 card from London, England. The event will be headlined by a pivotal light heavyweight division battle between Alexander Gustafsson and Jimi Manuwa. Also, Michael Johnson fight Melvin Guillard in a key light battle and Brad Pickett makes his flyweight debut.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division attraction as Omari Akhmedov (12-1-0) competes against Gunnar “Gunni” Nelson (11-0-1). Akhmedov is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Thiago Perpetuo at UFC Fight Night 32. Nelson is coming off of the biggest win of his MMA career, as he defeated Jorge Santiago at UFC On Fuel TV VII. Nelson looked dominant when he defeated Santiago in 2013 and he will dominate once more when he defeats Akhmedov.

Flyweight division action is up next as Brad “One Punch” Pickett (23-8-0) takes on Neil “2 Tap” Seery (13-9-0). Pickett will be making his flyweight division debut in this fight after going 3-3-0 as a bantamweight in the UFC. Seery will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he is the current Cage Warriors Flyweight Champion. Pickett is looking for a career resurrection with the move to flyweight and he will start one when he ruins the UFC debut of Seery.

Up next is a lightweight division battle as Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard (31-12-2-2NC) faces Michael “The Menace” Johnson (14-8-0). Guillard has only won one of his last four fights, with that lone win coming over Mac Danzig at UFC On Fox VIII. Johnson will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Gleison Tibau at UFC 168. Johnson has been looking for a breakout opportunity for a long time now and he will finally breakout when he defeats Guillard.

Headlining this card is a light heavyweight division bout as Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson (15-2-0) battles Jimi “Poster Boy” Manuwa (14-0-0). Gustafsson is competing for the first time since losing a UFC Light Heavyweight Title bout to Jon Jones at UFC 165. Manuwa is the only fighter in UFC history to win all of his bouts by either doctor stoppage or fighter injury. Manuwa is going to perform a lot better than most people believe, but Gustafsson will still walk away with the win.
