UFC 171 UFC FIGHT PASS PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/12/2014 5:57 PM

For the first time in well over six years, there will be a new UFC Welterweight Champion as Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler battle for the vacant crown. This card is loaded with a plethora of fights, with a total of four fights airing on the UFC Fight Pass portion of the preliminary card. Of those four preliminary card bouts, there is top prospects in the flyweight and featherweight division competing.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division affair as Daniel “The Pit” Pineda (18-10-0) competes against Robert Whiteford (10-2-0). Pineda has only won just one of his last four under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Justin Lawrence at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. Whiteford is currently winless in UFC competition, dropping a bout to Jim Hettes at UFC Fight Night 30. This is a must win scenario for both competitors in this one, but it will be Pineda getting the much needed win.

Middleweight division action is up next as Bubba “The Menace” McDaniel (21-7-0) battles Sean “Tarzan” Strickland (13-0-0). McDaniel will be looking to rebound from his first UFC defeat, which came to Brad Tavares at UFC Fight Night 27. Strickland will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is the current King Of The Cage Middleweight Champion. Strickland has been ready for his UFC debut for a long time now and he will show why when he defeats McDaniel in his promotional debut.

Up next is a flyweight division attraction as Will Campuzano (13-5-0) takes on Justin “Tank” Scoggins (8-0-0). Campuzano is currently winless in his second UFC run, dropping a fight to Sergio Pettis at UFC 167. Scoggins made his promotional debut back at UFC Fight Night 33, defeating Richie Vaculik by first round TKO. Campuzano has seemingly found a way to collapse in every UFC appearance and he will fall apart again when Scoggins defeats him.

Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division bout as Renee Forte (8-3-0) faces Francisco “Frank” Trevino (11-0-0). Forte has won just one of three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Terry Etim at UFC On Fuel TV VII. Trevino will make his UFC debut in this fight and he is a longtime veteran of the South Texas Fighting Championships. These are two of the better prospects in the UFC right now, but it will be Trevino making a successful UFC debut.
