UFC 171 FOX SPORTS 2 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/13/2014 8:21 AM

In an MMA weekend that will begin with the One FC promotion crown a welterweight on Friday, the UFC will also be crowning a welterweight champion at UFC 171. There is a loaded four fight portion of the preliminary card airing on Fox Sports 2, with a TUF Champion in the featured spot. Also, there is a key women's bantamweight division fight and top prospect Dennis Bermudez is in action.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division attraction as Alex “The Dominican Nightmare” Garcia (11-1-0) competes against Sean “Black Magic” Spencer (11-2-0). Garcia is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Ben Wall by TKO at UFC Fight Night 33. Spencer has won two of three fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Yuri Villefort at UFC Fight Night 28. These are two good up and coming fighters to keep an eye on, but it will be the more dynamic Garcia getting the win.

Featherweight division action is up next as Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez (12-3-0) battles Jim “The Kid” Hettes (11-1-0). Bermudez will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak and he has not dropped a fight in over two years. Hettes has won three of four fights under the UFC banner, last defeating Robert Whiteford at UFC Fight Night 30. These are two competitors who are looking to break into the top ten and it will be Bermudez doing so after a sixth straight win.

Up next is a women's bantamweight division bout as Jessica “Bate Estaca” Andrade (10-3-0) faces Raquel “Rocky” Pennington (4-3-0). Andrade will be looking to build off the momentum of her first UFC win, which came over Rosi Sexton at UFC Fight Night 30. Pennington is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Roxanne Modaferri at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale. Andrade's striking skills will be to much for Pennington to overcome, which is why Andrade will get her second UFC win.

Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division fight as Kelvin Gastelum (7-0-0) takes on Rick “The Horror” Story (16-7-0). Gastelum has won his previous two UFC appearances and he was the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 17. Story has rotated wins and losses in his last six UFC bouts, with his last fight being a victory over Brian Ebersole at UFC 167. Story is easily the most experienced fighter that Gastelum has ever faced, but Gatselum will ground out Story to remain undefeated.
