HENDERSON ON SHOGUN: “WE BRING THE BEST OUT OF EACH OTHER.”
Sonnen and Florian Break Down UFC FIGHT NIGHT Fights, Plus Shogun and Dollaway Interviews
LOS ANGELES, CA – The following quotes are from tonight’s FOX SPORTS LIVE UFC FIGHT NIGHT: SHOGUN VS. HENDERSON 2 postfight coverage on FOX SPORTS 1. The show was hosted by Karyn Bryant, with Chael Sonnen and Kenny Florian serving as analysts. Heidi Androl interviewed fighters onsite.
UFC ON FOX Analyst Kenny Florian on Shogun vs. Henderson 2: “Dan Henderson, we get it. You’re the toughest guy in the UFC. This was insanity. Shogun got the fast start, like Henderson did in the first fight. Shogun was nullifying the right hand of Henderson early on and had the chance to finish him several times. But Henderson finished it in the third. I got the round right with my prediction, but I got the wrong person winning.”
UFC ON FOX Analyst Chael Sonnen on Shogun vs. Henderson 2: “Wow, this was another classic - definitely the fight of the night. I think there were three knock outs in the fight, and two were against Henderson. But he ended it with one against Shogun.”
Florian on what was different from the first fight: “This was the first fight in reverse. Shogun was on his way to fighting the fight of his career. He was fighting slowly and brilliantly, until Henderson landed the shot and got one of the most dramatic comeback wins of his career.”
Sonnen on if Shogun was given enough time to recover from the shot: “I think the refereeing was good all night. Referee Herb Dean gave Dan a chance to recover and he gave Shogun a chance to recover, too.”
Dan Henderson on winning the fight: “If feels great to get that out of the way. I guess I tried to reverse the roles a little bit and let him beat me up in the first round and then beat him up. I started a little too slow and I got after him in the third.”
Henderson on the possibility of a third fight with Shogun: “I don’t know about that. I didn’t think after the first one that we could do it any better. It couldn’t have been more exciting. This one was close to that one. Maybe we bring the best out of each other as far as excitement goes.”
Henderson on if this is the biggest win of his career: “No, I wouldn’t say it’s the biggest. But Kenny Florian said I was going to get knocked out and you had it backwards. Ken, don’t count the old man out.”
Henderson on if he was knocked out in the fight: “I felt like I was aware of what was going on the whole time. He definitely rocked me and I was able to clench him a little on the ground and he didn’t connect anything on the ground.”
Henderson on if he said something to the referee to stop the fight: “I don’t think I said anything. I thought he was out. He was just kind of lying there and I didn’t want to keep beating on him. You know, I’m a fan of Shogun too.”
Henderson on if a weight is lifted off him after breaking the three-fight losing streak: “I feel like a big weight is off me. I finally got rid of the bad year I had last year and look forward to having a good one this year.”

Florian on CB Dollaway vs. Cezar Ferreira: “Cezar was doing really well and pressuring him and landing some shots. CB did the shoulder roll, waited, then landed with the right hand, and finished with the left. He stayed calm with his back up against the cage, waiting and went off the centerline and landed the right hand that hurt him.”
Sonnen on Dollaway getting a win in Brazil: “That was an exercise in mental toughness for CB. Coming off a controversial loss and then going into enemy territory and getting the win. This was a huge win mentally, physically and career-wise.”
CB Dollaway on his improved striking: “It has to do with my boxing coach. I’ve been working with him for just about two years now, and I’m really improving and learning the fundamentals every day.”

Florian on Norman Parke vs. Leonardo Santos: “I was impressed with the way that Santos started this fight. He had no ring rust and showed huge improvements with his striking. It was the grab of the shorts and the point deduction from Norman Parke that was the difference and caused a majority draw in the fight.”
Sonnen on the ref taking a point away from Parke: “We complain on the judging and refereeing. They were very good tonight. Parke grabbed the shorts and the ref took the point and that was the right thing to do.”
Parke on if he thought he was winning the fight: “I knew it was a close fight. I was winning the second round. They took a point off it. I thought they’d give me a warning. If it hadn’t been for that point deduction, I would have won a split decision. I should have been a wee bit more aggressive and come forward instead of letting him throw his punches at me. It was warm in there. It was tough after the first round. I was boiling up in there.”
