BELLATOR 115 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 4/2/2014 8:24 AM

While the upcoming WWE Wrestlemania 30 weekend will feature more live events that one can count on both of their hands, there are only two big MMA events this weekend. The biggest of them all will be the Bellator 115 event, which will feature Vitaly Minakov defending the heavyweight gold against UFC veteran Cheick Kongo. Also, the welterweight tournament semi-finals will begin and the middleweight tournament opening round will conclude.

Kicking off the action is a middleweight tournament opening round bout as Dan “Cosmo” Cramer (10-4-0) competes against Jeremy Kimball (10-4-0). Cramer made it to the semi-finals of the season eight middleweight tournament before losing to Brett Cooper. Kimball competed in the season nine middleweight tournament, but lost to Perry Filkins in the opening round. Cramer has faced far better competition than Kimball inside and outside of Bellator, that experience will carry him to the finals.

A middleweight division attraction is next as Johnny “Tattooed Terror” Cisneros (8-2-0) battles Mikkel Parlo (11-2-0). Cisneros will be making his Bellator debut in this fight and he is a longtime veteran of the King Of The Cage promotion. Parlo made it to the finals of the season nine middleweight tournament, losing to Brennan Ward in those finals. Parlo should be competing in the tournament this season, but he will be defeating Cisneros to get an opportunity in a future tournament.

Up next is a welterweight tournament semi-final round bout as Andrey “Spartan” Koreshkov (15-1-0) takes on Sam “Sammy O” Oropeza (11-2-0). Koreshkov advanced to the tournament semi-finals after defeating UFC veteran Nah-Shon Burrell at Bellator 112. Oropeza advanced to the second round of the tournament at Bellator 112 as well, as he defeated Cristiano Souza at that event. Koreshkov has already won a tournament and defeated a much bigger name in the opening round of the tournament, he will dominate Oropeza to make it to the finals.

Headlining this card is a Bellator Heavyweight Title Fight as champion Vitaly Minakov (13-0-0) defends against Cheick Kongo (20-8-2). Minakov will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Alexander Volkov at Bellator 108. Kongo earned a shot at the belt after winning the season nine heavyweight tournament, with a win over Peter Graham in the finals. Minakov is a far superior striker when compared to Kongo at this stage in their careers, Minakov will get the biggest win of his career as he defeats the UFC veteran.
