UFC FIGHT NIGHT 39 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 4/7/2014 5:00 PM

Kicking off what will no doubt be another weekend of big time MMA action is a loaded card from the Ultimate Fighting Championships. This fight night event will be headlined by a big heavyweight division bout as Roy Nelson faces Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. This is also a five fight preliminary card, with Thales Leites competing and a key featherweight division attraction.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division bout as Jim “The Beast” Alers (12-1-0) competes against Alan Omer (18-3-0). Alers will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is a former Cage Warriors Featherweight Champion. Omers will also be making his UFC debut in this fight and he has only fought one time in the last three years. Alers UFC debut has been a long time in the making and the former champ will defeat Omer to have a successful debut.

A pair of middleweights will collide next as Chris Camozzi (19-7-0) is in action against Andrew “Highlight” Craig (9-2-0). Camozzi will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak, dropping fights to Ronaldo Souza and Lorenz Larkin. Craig has rotated wins and losses in his last four fights, with his last fight being a loss to Luke Barnatt at UFC Fight Night 30. This is a must win situation for both competitors and it will be Camozzi getting the much needed victory.

More middleweight division action is next as Thales Leites (22-4-0) takes on Trevor “Hot Sauce” Smith (11-4-0). Leites has been undefeated since returning to the UFC, defeating both Tom Watson and Ed Herman respectively. Smith will be looking to build on the momentum of his first UFC victory, which came over Brian Houston at UFC Fight Night 35. Leites deserves a much better spot on this card than he got and he will show why when he defeats Smith.

Up next is a featherweight division affair as “Brutal” Johnny Bedford (19-10-1) battles Rani Yahya (19-8-0). Bedford has won two of three bouts under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Louis Gaudinot at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale. Yahya has won four of six fights during his time in the UFC, with his last fight being a loss to Tom Niinimaki at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale. Yahya stumbled a little bit in his last fight, but he will right the tracks to defeat Bedford and get back on track.

Headlining this portion of the card is a heavyweight division affair as Daniel Omielanczuk (16-3-1-1NC) faces Jared “The Big Show” Rosholt (9-1-0). Omielanczuk is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Nandor Guelmino at UFC 165. Rosholt is also undefeated under the UFC banner, with his win coming over Walt Harris at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Finale. This is a top battle of heavyweight prospects in the UFC, but it will be Rosholt staying undefeated in UFC competition.
