UFC FIGHT NIGHT 39 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 4/7/2014 8:14 PM

There are three MMA events coming up this Friday alone and the trio of events kicks off with UFC Fight Night 39. The event is going to be headlined by a big heavyweight division attraction as Roy Nelson faces Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Also, Clay Guida faces Tatsuya Kawajiri and top prospect Ryan LaFlare looks to keep his momentum going.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division affair as Beneil Dariush (7-0-0) competes against Ramsey Nijem (8-4-0). Dariush is coming off the biggest win of his professional MMA career, as he defeated Charlie Brenneman at UFC Fight Night 35. Nijem has won just one of his last three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Justin Edwards at UFC Fight Night 35. Dariush is coming off of the biggest win of his career and he will continue that wave of momentum when he defeats Nijem.

A pair of welterweights will collide next as John “Doomsday” Howard (22-8-0) battles Ryan LaFlare (10-0-0). Howard is currently undefeated in his second UFC run, defeating both Uriah Hall and Siyar Bahadurzada. LaFlare has already won three fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Court McGee at UFC On Fox IX. This is a much bigger battle than most people believe going into it, but it will be LaFlare remaining undefeated in the end.

Up next is a featherweight division attraction as Clay “The Carpenter” Guida (30-14-0) takes on Tatsuya “The Crusher” Kawajiri (33-7-2). Guida has won only one of two fights since dropping to featherweight, with that lone win coming over Hatsu Hioki at UFC On Fox VI. Kawajiri is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Sean Soriano at UFC Fight Night 34. Each of the competitors are known for their grinding styles, but it will be Kawajiri shocking Guida by defeating him in the end.

Headlining this card is a heavyweight division bout as Roy “Big Country” Nelson (19-9-0) faces Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira (34-8-1-1NC). Nelson will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak, dropping fights to both Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier. Nogueira has rotated wins and losses throughout his UFC run, with his last fight being a loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC On Fuel TV X. This is a scenario that both fighters need to win to stay relevant in the division and it will be the punching power of Nelson getting him the win.
