BELLATOR 116 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 4/8/2014 9:58 PM

Sandwiched in between events from the UFC and Resurrection Fighting Alliance is another stellar card from the Bellator Fighting Championships. Headlining the card is a heavyweight tournament semi-final round bout as UFC veteran Lavar Johnson faces Blagoi Ivanov. Also, Vladimir Matyushenko competed in his retirement bout and there is plenty more tournament action in place.

Kicking off the action is a heavyweight tournament semi-final bout as Siala-Mou “Mighty Mo” Siliga (6-2-0) competes against Alexander “Drago” Volkov (20-4-0). Siliga advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament after defeating Peter Graham by submission at Bellator 111. Volkov is a former Bellator Heavyweight Champion who defeated Mark Holota at Bellator 111 to make it to round two. Siliga has been on a fairy tale ride since coming to Bellator, bout that fairy tale is going to turn sour when Volkov beats him to get to the finals.

A light heavyweight division bout is next as Joey “The Mexicutioner” Beltran (14-10-0-1NC) battles Vladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko (27-7-0). Beltran has only won one of his last seven bouts, with that lone win coming over Anton Talamantes at a C3 Fights event. Matyushenko is a UFC veteran who is currently undefeated in Bellator, having defeated Houston Alexander at Bellator 99. This is the retirement fight for Matyushenko and he will get a positive end for his career when he defeats Beltran.

Up next is a welterweight tournament semi-final fight as Nathan “Soulforce” Coy (14-4-0) takes on Adam McDonough (10-0-0). Coy punched his ticket to the tournaments semi-finals after defeating UFC veteran Paul Bradley at Bellator 112. McDonough earned his spot in the tourney's second round after beating Jesse Juarez by decision at Bellator 112. Coy defeated a much more accomplished fighter in the first round of the tournament and he will continue to impress when he defeats McDonough.

Headlining this card is a heavyweight tournament semi-final round bout as Lavar “Big” Johnson (18-8-0) faces Blagoi Ivanov (10-0-0-1NC). Johnson found himself in the tournament semi-finals after securing a win over Ryan Martinez at Bellator 111. Ivanov was able to call himself a tournament semi-finalist after he defeated Rich Hale by decision at Bellator 111. These are two of the more inspirational competitors in Bellator right now, but it will be Ivanov moving onto the finals.
