ONE FC 15 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 4/28/2014 8:09 PM

The MMA weekend will begin with an event taking place overseas in One FC 15 and it will end with an overseas event in Cage Warriors 68. One FC 15 is going to be headlined by a bantamweight title bout as champion Bibiano Fernandes defends against Masakatsu Ueda. Also, Kotetsu Boku and Eduard Folayang compete in a huge bout and UFC veteran James McSweeney is in action.

Kicking off the action is a women's flyweight division bout as Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton (0-0-0) competes against Aya Saeid “Sheklesa” Saber (2-3-0). Julaton will be making her professional MMA debut in this fight and she has no amateur experience to speak of. Saber has only won just one of her last three fights and she is a veteran of the Egyptian Fighting Championships. Saber has not looked to good thus far in her pro career and Julaton will take advantage to make a successful pro debut.

A pair of flyweights will clash next as Gianni Subba (3-0-0) is in action against Eugene Toquero (4-1-0). Subba has spent his entire career in the One FC promotion and none of those fights have gone past the second round. Toquero is currently winless under the One FC banner and he is a veteran of the Pacific Xtreme Combat promotion. Subba has looked amazing in his previous One FC appearances and nothing will change this time around as he wins his fourth in the promotion.

Heavyweight division action will be happening next as Chris “Igor” Lokteff (12-1-0) does battle against James “The Hammer” McSweeney (12-11-0). Lokteff is currently undefeated in One FC competition and he has only had one career fight go to a decision. McSweeney is a UFC veteran who has won six of his last eight bouts, including a win over Strikeforce veteran Dion Staring. McSweeney has seen a career resurgence in recent years, but his momentum will come to a halt as Lokteff secures the win in this one.

The middleweight division will be featured next as Leandro Ataides (6-0-0) stands across the cage from Tatsuya Mizuno (12-9-0). Ataides has already competed once under the One FC banner, having defeated Bryan Rafiq at One FC 12. Mizuno will be looking to build off the momentum of his first victory in One FC, which came over Rafael Silva at One FC 11. Ataides is quickly becoming a fighter to watch in One FC and his career will continue to grow as he defeats Mizuno to stay undefeated.

We move to the featherweight division for this encounter as Yusuke “Bancho” Kawanago (13-3-2) will duke it out with “Ruthless” Rob Lisita (13-5-0). Kawanago has only competed once in the last two years, which was against Hiroyuki Oshiro at Pancrase 256. Lisita will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and he is a veteran of the Legend Fighting Championships. The winner of this fight could move into instant title contention, but it will be the more active Lisita getting the win.

Action is the bantamweight division is happening next as Josh “Chest Presley” Alvarez (12-6-0) battles Rey “The Punisher” Docyogen (10-2-0). Alvarez is currently winless in One FC competition, having dropped a fight to Koetsu Okazaki at One FC 13. Docyogen has already remained winless in One FC competition and he has not won a fight in over two years. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one, but it will be Alvarez getting the much needed victory.

Up next is a lightweight division attraction as Kotetsu “No Face” Boku (21-9-2) takes on Edaurd “Landslide” Folayang (13-4-0). Boku has only won just one of his last three in One FC competition, with one of those losses coming to current lightweight champion Shinya Aoki. Folayang has won two of four fights during his time in One FC, with a notable win over Vincent Latoel at One FC 13. Boku has been looking to get another opportunity and Shinya Aoki and he may get it after he defeats Folayang.

Headlining this card is a One FC Bantamweight Title bout as Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes (15-3-0) defends against Masakatsu Ueda (18-2-2). Fernandes will be making the second defense of his championship, last defending it against Soo-Chul Kim at One FC 11. Ueda is currently undefeated in One FC competition, most notably defeating UFC veteran Jens Pulver at One FC VIII. This could arguably be the biggest fight in One FC history, but it will be Fernandes holding onto the gold in the end.
