BELLATOR 118 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 4/29/2014 12:08 PM

Capping off a big Friday full of MMA action will be another big card from the Bellator Fighting Championships. The card will be headlined by a bout for the vacant Bellator Interim Bantamweight Title as Joe Warren faces Rafael Silva. The preliminary card is stacked with plenty of great fights as well, with UFC veteran Dante Rivera in action.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division bout as Amran Aliyev (3-2-0) competes against Kevin “K-Rod” Roddy (13-15-1-1NC). Aliyev has won two of his last three heading into his Bellator debut and he is a veteran of the Pinnacle Fighting Championships. Roddy will be looking to rebound from his first Bellator defeat, which came to Will Martinez at Bellator 108. Roddy is easily the most experienced foe that Aliyev has ever faced, by Aliyev will overcome that to get the win.

The lightweight division will be featured next as Mike “The Irish Cannon” Bannon (5-1-0) is in action against Sidney Outlaw (2-0-0). Bannon will be looking to build on the momentum of his first Bellator win, which came over Ahsan Abdullah at Bellator 109. Outlaw will be making his Bellator debut in this fight and he is returning to action after being away for nearly a year. Bannon has been more active when compared to Outlaw and that activity will carry him to a victory.

More lightweight division action will be happening next as Julian “Nitrane” Lane (6-3-1) does battle against Anthony “Cheesesteak” Morrison (18-10-0-1NC). Lane has only won two of his last six bouts and he is returning to Bellator after a two-plus year layoff. Morrison is a veteran of the WEC and he is undefeated in Bellator, having defeated Kenny Foster at Bellator 108. Morrison has fought far superior competition when compared to his opponent and that experience will get him the duke.

Another featherweight division battle is next as Lester Caslow (11-9-0-1NC) slugs it out with Jay Haas (11-13-0-1NC). Caslow has won three of his last four fights, which includes a victory over opponent Jay Haas at Bellator 109. Haas has only won one of his last eight fights, with that lone win coming over Eddie Fyvie at Cage Fury Fighting Championships 24. Not much has changed for either competitor heading into the rematch and it will be Caslow winning again.

Even more featherweight action is taking place next as Darrion “The Wolf” Caldwell (4-0-0) is battling Joe Pingitore (4-1-1). Caldwell has already competed once under the Bellator banner, having defeated Lance Surma at Bellator 112. Pingitore will be making his Bellator debut in this fight and he is a veteran of the Classic Entertainment & Sports promotion. These are two top up and coming prospects not signed to a major promotion, but it will be Caldwell remaining undefeated in the end.

A pair of middleweights will collide next as Eugene “The Sniper” Fadiora (13-1-0) battles Timothy “The Good Soldier” Woods (6-4-0). Fadiora is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated Keith Berry by TKO at Bellator 105. Woods has rotated wins and losses in his last six fights, with his last fight being a loss to Mike Stewart at Cage Fury Fighting Championships 22. Fadiora should be competing in a Bellator tournament at this point in his career and he will make a case to get into a future tournament when he defeats Woods.

Up next is a welterweight division attraction as Ryan Contaldi (7-7-1) takes on Jesus “Chavo” Martinez (8-5-0). Contaldi will enter the fight riding a four fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in nearly three years. Martinez is currently winless in Bellator competition, with one of those losses coming to UFC veteran Nah-Shon Burrell. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one and it will be Martinez getting the much needed victory.

Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division fight as Gemiyale “Baby Hercules” Adkins (8-6-0) faces Dante Rivera (15-7-0). Adkins has only won one of his last five fights and he has not competed in a fight in almost a full year. Rivera is a UFC veteran who competed in the season nine welterweight tournament, losing to Lyman Good in the opening round. Rivera is going to be looking for another shot in a Bellator tournament and he will get one as he defeats Adkins.
