BELLATOR 118 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 4/30/2014 12:04 PM

Despite some last second changes to the card, the upcoming Bellator 118 card is still a card that is worth checking out. The event will be headlined by a bout for the vacant Bellator Interim Bantamweight Title as Joe Warren faces Rafael Silva. Also, there is a welterweight tournament semi-final fight on the card and the “Summer Series” light heavyweight tournament begins.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division bout as Marcos “Loro” Galvao (15-6-1) competes against “The Die Hard Kid” Thomas Vasquez (7-0-0). Galvao has been undefeated since losing to current Bellator Bantamweight Champion Eduardo Dantas at Bellator 89. Vasquez will be making his Bellator debut in this fight and he is a veteran of the Bang Fighting Championships. Galvao has been looking for another opportunity at a Bellator tournament and he will get it when he defeats Vasquez.

A “Summer Series” light heavyweight tournament opening round bout is next as Liam McGeary (6-0-0) battles “Crazy” Mike Mucitelli (6-0-0-1NC). McGeary has won all three of his previous fights in Bellator and all of those wins came in the opening round. Mucitelli has competed five times already under the Bellator banner, with only one of those fights going past the opening round. This is a fight that should be getting a lot more attention than it has gotten, but it will be McGeary advancing to the next round.

Up next is a welterweight tournament semi-final bout as Andrey “Spartan” Koreshkov (15-1-0) takes on Sam “Sammy O” Oropeza (11-2-0). Koreshkov advanced to the second round of the tournament after defeating Nah-Shon Burrell at Bellator 112. Oropeza earned his position in the tournament semi-finals after defeating Cristiano Souza at Bellator 112. Koreshkov has already competed for the gold once and he will get closer to a shot when he defeats Oropeza.

Headlining this card is a bout for the vacant Bellator Interim Bantamweight Title as Rafael “Morcego” Silva (21-3-0) faces Joe Warren (10-3-0). Silva earned a shot at the gold after winning the “2013 Summer Series” bantamweight tournament, defeating Anthony Leone in the finals. Warren got a shot at the championship when he won the season nine bantamweight tournament, beating Travis Marx in the finals. Being a late replacement is going to affect Silva in a negative way as Warren gets the victory to take home the gold.
