UFC 173 FOX SPORTS 1 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 5/22/2014 11:15 AM

Bantamweight title action is on the menu this weekend at UFC 173 as champion Renan Barao puts the gold on the line against TJ Dillashaw. Prior to the pay-per-view action, there will be four big preliminary card fights airing on Fox Sports 1. Of the four preliminary card fights on Fox Sports 1, there will be three bouts featuring past TUF Champions.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division bout as Mitch “Danger Zone” Clarke (10-2-0) competes against Al Iaquinta (8-2-1). Clarke will be looking to build on the momentum of his first UFC win, which came over John Maguire at UFC 161. Iaquinta will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, most notably defeating Ryan Couture at UFC 164. Iaquinta has been on quite the roll in his last few fights and that roll will continue when he hands Clarke a defeat.

A bantamweight division attraction is next as Chico “King” Camus (14-4-0) battles Chris Holdsworth (5-0-0). Camus has won three of four fights under the UFC banner, last defeating Yaotzin Meza at UFC On Fox X. Holdsworth won the UFC Ultimate Fighter 18 and he is also a veteran of the Resurrection Fighting Alliance. Camus has a huge experience edge when compared to Holdsworth and that experience will gain him the win.

Up next is a lightweight division affair as Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson (14-3-0) takes on Katsunori Kikuno (22-5-2). Ferguson has won four of five fights under the UFC banner and he was the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 13. Kikuno is currently undefeated thus far in UFC competition, having defeated Quinn Mulhern at UFC Fight Night 34. Ferguson is one of the more impressive TUF winners out there right now and he will defeat Kikuno to show why.

Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division fight as “Maverick” Michael Chiesa (10-1-0) faces Francisco “Massaranduba” Trinaldo (14-3-0). Chiesa has won three of four fights under the UFC banner and he was the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 15. Trinaldo has won three of his last four fights in UFC competition, most notably defeating Mike Rio at UFC On FX VIII. Chiesa is quickly becoming a threat in the lightweight division and he will rise up the rankings when he defeats Trinaldo.
