ONE FC 16 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 5/26/2014 9:48 PM

The MMA weekend may conclude with a pair of events from the UFC, but it will begin with another big event from One FC. The event will be headlined by the promotional debut of former Bellator Welterweight Champion Ben Askren, as he faces Bakhtiyar Abbasov. Also, Vincent Latoel faces Eddie Ng and former bantamweight champion Honorio Banario will be in action.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division bout as Raymond Tan (2-1-0) competes against Radeem Rahman (1-0-0). Tan will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Casey Suire at One FC 12. Rahman is returning to action after a three year absence, last competing at the debut One FC event in September 2011. Rahman has been out of the MMA game for a long time now and that is going to hurt him as Tan picks up the victory.

Heavyweight division action will be happening next as Chi Lewis “Chopper” Parry (5-0-0) is in action against Alain “The Panther” Ngalani (1-1-0). Parry will be making his One FC debut in this fight and none of his pro MMA bouts have gone to a decision. Ngalani will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Paul Cheng at One FC 13. Ngalani is vastly outmatched when compared to Parry and Parry will dominate him to remain undefeated.

More bantamweight action is happening next as Xian “The Executioner” Ji (11-2-0) does battle against Thanh “Aladdin” Vu (3-3-0). Ji will be making his One FC debut in this fight, but he is a longtime veteran of the Legends Fighting Championships. Vu has only won one of three fights under the One FC banner, with that lone win coming over Mohd Fouzein at One FC VII. Ji is a highly touted fighter entering One FC and Vu is no match for him as Ji makes a successful promotional debut.

The featherweight division will be featured next as Major “Majee” Overall (4-1-0) will clash with Bruno Pucci (3-0-0). Overall is currently winless in One FC competition, having dropped a fight to Kim Hock Quek at One FC III. Pucci has already competed once under the One FC banner, defeating Bashir Ahmad by submission at One FC X. Pucci has looked very good thus far in this early stage of his MMA career and he will look good again when he defeats Overall.

A pair of lightweights will collide next as Willy Ni (15-8-0) steps up for action against Caros “The Future” Fodor (8-4-0). Ni will enter the fight riding a six fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in almost eight full years. Fodor is a UFC veteran who has only won one of his last four bouts, with that lone win coming over Seung Yo Hang at One FC X. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one, but it will be Fodor picking up the key win.

Another featherweight division bout is next as Jadamba Narantungalag (8-3-0) battles Honorio The Rock” Banario (8-3-0). Narantungalag will be making his One FC debut in this fight and he is a veteran of the Legends Fighting Championships. Banario is a former One FC Bantamweight Champion, but he will enter the fight on a two fight losing streak. Banario needs this win badly if he is to remain a threat in One FC and he will get that win to stay a threat.

Up next is a lightweight division bout as Vincent Latoel (14-14-2) takes on Eddie “The Magician” Ng (7-1-0). Latoel has only won two of his last eight fights, with one of those wins coming over Willy Ni at One FC X. Ng will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak, which includes three victories under the One FC banner. Latoel has a big experience edge when compared to Ng, but Ng is a far better fighter and that will show when he pulls out the victory.

Headlining this card is a welterweight division fight as Bakhtiyar Abbasov (11-2-0) faces “Funky” Ben Askren (12-0-0). Abbasov will enter the fight riding a nine fight winning streak and he has not dropped a fight in over three years. Askren will be competing for the first time since leaving Bellator, where he was the former welterweight champion. Askren is easily the best wrestler in the MMA world right now and that wrestling will help him make a successful One FC debut.
