UFC FIGHT NIGHT 41 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 5/28/2014 11:01 AM

The first of two UFC events will take place on Saturday afternoon as UFC Fight Night 41 comes to us from Germany. The event will be headlined by a key middleweight division bout as Mark Munoz battles Gegard Mousasi. Also, Francis Carmont battles CB Dollaway and top prospect Luke Barnatt will be in action as well.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division bout as Niklas Backstrom (7-0-0-1NC) competes against Tom “Stoneface” Niinimaki (21-5-1). Backstrom will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he is a veteran of the Cage Warriors promotion. Niinimaki is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Rani Yahya at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale. Niinimaki pulled a huge upset over Yahya in his UFC debut and he will ride that momentum to defeat Backstrom.

A middleweight division clash is next as Luke “Bigslow” Barnatt (8-0-0) battles Sean “Tarzan” Strickland (14-0-0). Barnatt has already won three bouts under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Andrew Craig at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Munoz. Strickland made his UFC debut back at UFC 171, which is where he upset longtime veteran Bubba McDaniel. Barnatt is a fighter that the UFC has high hopes for and he will reward those hopes when he ends the undefeated streak of Strickland.

Up next is a middleweight division bout as Francis “Limitless” Carmont (22-8-0) takes on CB “The Doberman” Dollaway (14-5-0). Carmont has won six of seven fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Costas Philippou at UFC 165. Dollaway has won three of his last four fights under the UFC banner, last defeating Cezar Ferreira at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Henderson II. Dollaway has started to build himself into a contender in the middleweight division and he will continue that build as he defeats Carmont in this one.

Headlining this card is a middleweight division bout as “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Mark Munoz (13-4-0) faces Gegard “The Dreamcatcher” Mousasi (34-4-2). Munoz has only won one of his last three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Tim Boetsch at UFC 162. Mousasi is a former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion and he has won one of two under the UFC banner. Mousasi still has a lot more to offer when compared to Munoz at this stage of their careers and Mousasi will get the win to move up the rankings.
