UFC FIGHT NIGHT 42 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 6/6/2014 9:22 AM

With four big time MMA events taking place this weekend, it will be the UFC capping off the marathon of action with another topnotch card. The event is going to be headlined by a lightweight division contest as Ben Henderson battles Rustam Khabilov. Also, Diego Sanchez battles Ross Pearson and top flyweight division contender John Dodson is back in the octagon.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division bout as Bryan “Kid Lightning” Caraway (18-6-0) competes against Erik “El Goyito” Perez (14-5-0). Caraway has won three of four fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Johnny Bedford at UFC 159. Perez has won four of five fights during his time in the UFC, last defeating Edwin Figueroa at UFC 167. The winner of this could find themselves close to a title shot and it will be Perez getting closer with a win.

A lightweight division contest is happening next as Yves “Thugjitsu Master” Edwards (42-20-1-1NC) is in action against Piotr “Pletwal” Hallman (14-2-0). Edwards has only won one of his last five under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Jeremy Stephens at UFC On Fox V. Hallman will be looking to rebound from his first loss in the UFC, which came to Al Iaquinta at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Munoz. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one, but it will be Edwards using his vast experience to get the win.

More lightweight division action is next as Rafael Dos Anjos (20-7-0) does battle against “The Kansas City Bandit” Jason High (18-4-0). Dos Anjos has won five of his last six bouts in UFC competition, most notably defeating Donald Cerrone at UFC Fight Night: Condit vs. Kampmann II. High will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Anthony Laplsley at UFC 167. Dos Anjos is quickly building himself into a top contender in the lightweight division and he will recover from his last fights stumble to defeat High in this one.

The flyweight division will be featured next as John “The Magician” Dodson (15-6-0) battles John Moraga (14-2-0). Dodson has won four of five under the UFC banner and he has already challenged Demetrious Johnson for the UFC Flyweight Title at UFC On Fox VI. Moraga has won three of four during his tenure in the UFC and he already faced Demetrious Johnson for the UFC Flyweight Title at UFC On Fox VIII. The winner of this fight could easily find themselves getting another shot at the gold and it will be Dodson getting that shot.

Up next is a lightweight division contest as Ross “The Real Deal” Pearson (15-6-0-1NC) takes on Diego “The Dream” Sanchez (24-7-0). Pearson will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and he has not lost a bout in almost two years. Sanchez has only won one of his last four under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Takanori Gomi at UFC On Fuel TV VIII. This fight has highlight reel slugfest written all over it, but it will be Pearson leaving with the win in the end.

Headlining this card is a lightweight division contest as Ben “Smooth” Henderson (20-3-0) faces Rustam “Tiger” Khabilov (17-1-0). Henderson has been undefeated since losing the UFC Lightweight Title, last defeating Josh Thomson at UFC On Fox X. Khabilov is currently undefeated in UFC competition, most notably defeating Jorge Masvidal at UFC Fights For The Troops III. Khabilov is competing in the biggest fight of his career and he will achieve the biggest win of his career when he shocks Henderson to get the victory.
