Longtime UFC veteran and multiple time title challenger Chael Sonnen has announced his retirement from MMA, his record was 28-14-1. During his two runs in the UFC, Sonnen twice challenged for the UFC Middleweight Title in two losing efforts to then champion Anderson Silva and he challenged current UFC light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones for the gold once.
During his seventeen year MMA career, Sonnen took on other top names like Jason Miller, Trevor Prangley, Akihiro Gono, Forrest Griffin, Jeremy Horn, Renato Sobral, Paulo Filho, Damien Maia, Dan Miller, Yushin Okami, Nate Marquardt, Brian Stann, Mauricio Rua and Rashad Evans. Sonnen was set to fight Vitor Belfort at UFC 175, but a failed pre-fight drug test lead to the fights cancellation and Sonnen's subsequent retirement from the sport. Sonnen's last professional MMA bout came at UFC 167, where he suffered a first round TKO loss to Rashad Evans.
