UFC 174 FOX SPORTS 1 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 6/12/2014 10:45 PM

For the first time in the history of the UFC, a UFC Flyweight Title bout will be headlining a pay-per-view. That is because current UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson will defend against Ali Bagautinov at UFC 174. There are four fights taking place on the Fox Sports 1 portion of the preliminary card, with top bantamweight Mike Easton in action.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division affair as “Ragin'” Kajan Johnson (19-10-1) competes against “The Supernatural” Tae Hyun Bang (16-8-0). Johnson will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is a veteran of the Maximum Fighting Championships. Bang is currently winless in UFC competition, having dropped a fight to Mairbek Taisumov at UFC Fight Night: Saffiedine vs. Lim. Bang did not look good at all in his UFC debut and his stumbles will continue as Johnson defeats him to have a successful UFC debut.

A pair of bantamweights will collide next as Mike “The Hulk” Easton (13-4-0) battles Yves “Tiger” Jabouin (19-9-0). Easton will enter the fight riding a three fight losing streak and he has not won a bout in almost two years. Jabouin has only won one of his last three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Dustin Pague at UFC 161. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one and it will be Easton getting that needed victory.

Up next is a women's bantamweight division bout as Valerie “Trouble” Letourneau (5-3-0) takes on Elizabeth Phillips (4-1-0). Letourneau will be making her UFC debut in this fight, but she has previously fought UFC veterans Alexis Davis and Sarah Kaufman. Phillips will also be making her UFC debut in this fight and she is a longtime veteran of the Conquest Of The Cage promotion. This is a huge opportunity for both competitors in this one, but it will be Letourneau using her experience to notch the victory.

Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division fight as Kiichi “Strasser” Kunimoto (16-5-2-1NC) faces Daniel Sarafian (8-4-0). Kunimoto is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Luiz Dutra Jr. at UFC Fight Night: Saffiedine vs. Lim. Sarafian has won just one of three fights under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Eddie Mendez at UFC On Fuel TV X. Kunimoto looked impressive in his UFC debut and he will look good once again as he defeats Sarafian in this one.
