WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING X PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 6/19/2014 9:04 AM

The WSOF is going all out on their next two events and prior to the debut on NBC, the WSOF X card will happen with three title fights. The event will be headlined by the crowning of the first middleweight champion as David Branch faces Jesse Taylor. There are eight fights on the super sized preliminary card, with Dave Huckaba and Derrick Mehmen in the featured spot.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division affair as Tanner Cowan (0-0-0) competes against AJ “Black Dynamite” Williams (0-0-0). Cowan will make his professional MMA debut in this fight after winning eight of nine as an amateur fighter. Williams will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he has competed as an amateur in the King Of The Cage promotion. Cowan has a lot more amateur experience when compared to Williams and that experience will gain him his first pro win.

A women's strawweight division bout is on the card next as Lynn “Lights Out” Alvarez (6-3-0) does battle against Sofia Bagherdai (5-2-0). Alvarez has only won one of her last three bouts and she holds a victory over current Invicta FC Strawweight Champion Michelle Waterson. Bagherdai is returning to competition after a two year absence and she is a veteran of the Fatale Femmes Fighting promotion. Bagherdai's long break from the cage is going to hurt her in this one as Alvarez makes a successful WSOF debut.

More lightweight division action is happening next as Justin “Guitar Hero” Jaynes (3-1-0) is in action against Jimmy Spicuzza (3-0-0). Jaynes will be making his WSOF debut in this fight and he has only had one career fight go to a decision. Spicuzza has already competed once under the WSOF banner, having defeated Gil Guardado at the WSOF IX. Spicuzza looked really good in his WSOF debut and he will look good again when he defeats Jaynes in this one.

The bantamweight division will be featured next as Brandon “Hot Rod” Hempleman (9-2-0) stands across the cage from Andrew “The Golden Boy” Yates (7-1-0). Hempleman is currently winless in WSOF competition, having lost to Marlon Moraes at the WSOF IV. Yates is also winless under the WSOF banner, with his loss coming to Chad Robichaux at the WSOF VI. This is a must win fight if either fighter wants to return to the WSOF and it will be Hempleman getting the needed victory.

Women's bantamweight division action is next as Marciea “The Black Widow” Allen (3-1-0) dukes it out with Ashlee Evans-Smith (2-0-0). Allen will make her WSOF debut in this fight and she has previously competed in the Invicta FC promotion. Evans-Smith is coming off of a huge upset, as she defeated transgender fighter Fallon Fox at Championship Fighting Alliance 12. Evans-Smith is riding a huge wave of momentum after defeating Fox and she will ride that momentum to get the win over Allen.

We move to the middleweight division for the next bout as Angel “The Dream” DeAnda (11-3-0) battles Krasimir “The Wrestler” Mladenov (10-0-0). DeAnda is currently winless under the WSOF banner, having lost to Tyrone Spong at the WSOF IV. Mladenov is currently undefeated under the WSOF banner, having defeated Kendrick Miree at the WSOF III. DeAnda took an amazing beating from Spong at the WSOF IV and he will take another beating her as Mladenov pulls out the win.

Up next is a featherweight division attraction as “Ruthless” Rudy Morales (3-0-0) takes on Timur Valiev (6-1-0). Morales is coming off of an appearance in Bellator, where he defeated Jimmy Jones by decision at Bellator 115. Valiev will be making his WSOF debut in this fight and he will be doing so on the strength of a six fight winning streak. Valiev is a fighter looking to break out on the national scene and he will break out when he ends the undefeated straek of Morales.

Headlining this portion of the card is a heavyweight division bout as Dave “Bad Man” Huckaba (21-5-0) faces Derrick “Caveman” Mehmen (17-5-0). Huckaba is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, having defeated WSOF President Rey Sefo at the WSOF IV. Mehmen is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, most notably defeating Rolles Gracie by TKO at WSOF V. This is a key heavyweight division fight for the promotion, but it will be Mehmen getting the victory.
