UFC 175 PAY-PER-VIEW PREVIEW

By David Tees on 7/2/2014 9:44 PM

With two UFC events this weekend, one can easily make the argument that the more impressive card is the UFC 175 card. The event will be headlined by a pair of title bouts as both UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman and UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey defend their respective titles. Also, Stefan Struve returns to the octagon and the man who owns the most brutal TUF knockout ever competes.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division bout as Marcus “The Bama Beast” Brimage (6-2-0) competes against Russell Doane (13-3-0). Brimage has won three of four fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Maximo Blanco at UFC 145. Doane is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Leandro Issa at UFC Fight Night: Saffiedine vs. Lim. This is a huge opportunity for both fighters to be competing on pay-per-view, but it will be Brimage handing Doane his first UFC defeat.

A pair of middleweight will duke it out next as Uriah Hall (8-4-0) does battle against Thiago “Marreta” Santos (9-2-0). Hall will be looking to build on the momentum of his first UFC win, which came over Chris Leben at UFC 168. Santos will also be looking to build on the momentum of his first UFC win, which came over Ronny Markes at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Henderson II. These are two fighters who are getting a big opportunity in this one, but it will be the TUF alumni in Hall getting the win.

Heavyweight division action will be happening next as Matt “Meathead” Mitrione (7-3-0) battles Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve (25-6-0). Mitrione has won two of his last three fights under the UFC banner, last defeating Shawn Jordan at UFC Fight Night: Kim vs. Hathaway. Struve will be returning to action after a year-plus absence as he was dealing with a variety of serious heart issues. Struve was quickly building himself into a contender before his health issues arose and he will return to form when he defeats Mitrione.

Up next is a bout for the UFC Women's Bantamweight Title as champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (9-0-0) defends against Alexis “Ally-Gator” Davis (16-5-0). Rousey will be making the fourth defense of her championship, last defending it against Sara McMann at UFC 170. Davis is currently undefeated in UFC competition, most notably defeating Jessica Eye by decision at UFC 170. Davis will provide a bigger challenge to Rousey than most people think, but Rousey will still be leaving with the gold.

Headlining this card is a fight for the UFC Middleweight Title as champion “All American” Chris Weidman (11-0-0) puts the gold on the line against Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida (21-4-0). Weidman will be making the second defense of his championship, last defending it against Anderson Silva at UFC 168. Machida is currently undefeated as a middleweight in the UFC, last defeating Gegard Mousasi at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Mousasi. Weidman did the impossible when he defeated Anderson Silva twice and his roll will continue when he defeats Machida to keep the gold.
