UFC FIGHT NIGHT 45 FOX SPORTS 1 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 7/14/2014 8:42 PM

There will be a pair of UFC Fight Night events this week and it all begins this Wednesday with UFC Fight Night 45. The event is going to be headlined by a key lightweight division bout as Jim Miller battles Donald Cerrone. There are four fights on the Fox Sports 1 portion of the preliminary card, with a big lightweight bout in the featured spot.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division affair as Yosdenis “Pink Panther” Cedeno (9-3-0) competes against Jerrod Sanders (14-1-0). Cedeno is currently winless under the UFC banner, having dropped a fight to Ernest Chavez at UFC 170. Sanders will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he will be doing so on a twelve fight winning streak. Sanders has a lot of hype behind him heading into his UFC debut and he will live up to that up as he defeats Cedeno.

A pair of bantamweights will collide next as Aljamain Sterling (9-0-0) battles Hugo “Wolverine” Viana (8-1-0). Sterling made a successful UFC debut back at UFC 170, which is where he defeated Cody Gibson by decision. Viana has won three of four fights under the UFC banner, with that lone loss coming to current UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw. The winner of this fight should get bigger fights in the division and it will be Viana ending Sterling's undefeated streak.

Up next is a women's bantamweight division bout as Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke (3-1-0-1NC) takes on Leslie “The Peacemaker” Smith (6-5-1). Duke will be looking to rebound from her first loss in the UFC, which came to Bethe Correia at UFC 172. Smith is currently winless under the UFC banner, having dropped a fight to Sarah Kaufman at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one, but it will be Duke picking up the key victory.

Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division fight as Pat “Bam Bam” Healy (29-19-0-1NC) faces Gleison Tibau (28-10-0). Healy is currently winless under the UFC banner, last dropping a fight to Jorge Masvidal at UFC On Fox 11. Tibau has won two of his last three fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Jamie Varner at UFC 164. Healy's chance to become a contender in the UFC is behind him at this point, Tibau will out wrestle him for the win.
