LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 33 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 7/16/2014 3:24 PM

In between a pair of UFC Fight Night events this week will be another big card from the Legacy Fighting Championships. The event is going to be headlined by a featherweight title bout as UFC veteran Leonard Garcia defends against Damon Jackson. Also, WEC veteran Marcus Hicks competes and plenty of top MMA prospects will be stepping into the cage.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division bout as Andrew Parker (4-0-0) competes against Melvin Jordan (2-1-0). Parker will be making his Legacy FC debut in this bout and he is a longtime veteran of the Xtreme Knockout promotion. Jordan has spent his entire career in the Legacy FC promotion and he will enter the fight on a two fight winning streak. Parker has a lot of momentum behind him heading into his Legacy FC debut and he will defeat Jordan to make a successful promotional debut.

A pair of bantamweights will be battling next as Kory Vialet (4-1-0) does battle against Eli “Tomahawk” Tamez (7-0-0). Vialet has only competed once in the last two years, which was a win over Isaiah Lewis at Vengeance Fighting Alliance III. Tamez has already competed three times under the Legacy FC banner, last defeating Nelson Salas at Legacy FC 28. Tamez has quickly built himself into a contender in Legacy FC and he will get closer to a potential title shot when he defeats Vialet.

Featherweight division action is occurring next as Johnny Ray “The Judge” Rodriguez (4-2-0) is in action against Steven “Ocho” Peterson (10-4-0). Rodriguez has won two of three bouts in Legacy FC competition, most notably defeating Joseph Salas at Legacy FC 13. Peterson will enter the bout riding a two fight winning streak and he has already won three bouts in Legacy FC. Peterson always seems to come up short when he has an opportunity to become a contender in Legacy FC, but he will right the ship and defeat Rodriguez in this one.

The middleweight division will be featured next as Victor Reyna (4-1-0) battles Evan “The Titan” Thompson (4-0-0). Reyna is currently undefeated in Legacy FC competition, having defeated Lior Shporen at Legacy FC 28. Thompson has spent his entire career in the Legacy FC promotion, but he has only had one fight not go to a decision. Thompson should be very close to a shot at the vacant middleweight strap and he will become a top contender as he defeats Reyna.

Up next is a lightweight division affair as Kamarudeen “Marty” Usman (4-1-0) takes on Marcus “The Wrecking Ball” Hicks (10-3-0-1NC). Usman is currently undefeated in Legacy FC competition, defeating both Steven Rodriguez and Lenny Lovato. Hicks is a WEC veteran who is returning to action after a two year absence and will do so riding a two fight winning streak. Hicks has been away from competition for a very long time and Usman will take advantage of that to upset the WEC veteran.

Headlining this card is a Legacy FC Featherweight Title bout as champion Leonard “Bad Boy” Garcia (18-11-1) defends against Damon “The Leech” Jackson (8-0-0). Garcia will be making his second defense of his championship, last defending it against Kevin Aguilar at Legacy FC 26. Jackson earned an opportunity at the gold after defeating Hunter Tucker by submission at Legacy FC 28. Garcia is a UFC veteran who has seen a career resurgence in Legacy FC and that resurgence will continue as he holds onto the belt.
