UFC ON FOX 12 FOX PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 7/24/2014 12:00 PM

Another big weekend of MMA action is upon us and it will be coming to a conclusion with Saturday Night's UFC On Fox 12 card. The event is going to be headlined by a huge welterweight division bout featuring Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown. There are four fights on the Fox portion of the preliminary card, with a key lightweight division bout in the featured spot.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division bout as Mike “El Cucuy” De La Torre (12-4-0) competes against Brian “T-City” Ortega (8-0-0). De La Torre is currently winless under the UFC banner, having dropped a fight to Mark Bocek at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale. Ortega will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is the current Resurrection Fighting Alliance Bantamweight Champion. Ortega has a lot of hype surrounding him as he makes his UFC debut and he will live up to that hype when he defeats De La Torre.

A pair of welterweights will collide next as Tim “The Dirty Bird” Means (20-6-1) battles Hernani Perpetuo (17-4-0-1NC). Means is currently winless in his second UFC run, having dropped a fight to Neil Magny at UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva. Perpetuo is currently winless in UFC competition as well, losing to Jordan Mein by decision at UFC On Fox 11. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one, but it will be Means getting the much needed win.

Up next is a light heavyweight division bout as Patrick “Durkin'” Cummins (5-1-0) takes on Kyle “Kingsbu” Kingsbury (11-5-0-1NC). Cummins will be looking to build on the momentum of his first UFC win, which came over Roger Narvaez at UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. Khabilov. Kingsbury will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and he has not won a fight in well over three years. Kingsbury has not been a real threat in the division for awhile now and Cummins will defeat him to send him back into retirement.

Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division bout as “The Detroit Superstar” Daron Cruickshank (15-4-0) faces Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal (26-8-0). Cruickshank will enter the bout riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Erik Koch at UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva. Masvidal has won three of four fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Pat Healy at UFC On Fox 11. Cruickshank is getting better in better with each octagon appearance and Saturday Night will be his best appearance yet as he defeats Masvidal.
