CAGE WARRIORS 70 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/13/2014 2:25 PM

Kicking off a busy Saturday of MMA action will be the highly anticipated return of the Cage Warriors promotion. Headlining this card is a huge lightweight division attraction as Joseph Duffy does battle against Damien Lapilus. Also, some of the best MMA competitors in the European MMA scene will be stepping into the cage as well.

Kicking off the action is a flyweight division attraction as Paul “El Empalador” Marin (7-4-0) competes against Andy “Taz” Young (6-5-0). Marin has only won two of five fights under the Cage Warriors banner, but he is coming off of a loss To Marcin Lasota at Cage Warriors Fight Night X. Young will be returning to Cage Warriors after a two year break, last competing in Cage Warriors 50 in a losing effort to Mark Connor. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one, but it will be Marin walking away with a victory.

A pair of light heavyweights will be competing next as Lloyd “Maverick” Clarkson (8-7-0) does battle against Karl Moore (4-0-0). Clarkson will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this fight, but he has previously fought UFC veteran Tom Watson. Moore has already competed once under the Cage Warriors banner, having defeated Richie Knox at Cage Warriors 62. Moore is quickly becoming a top light heavyweight prospect and his stock will rise when he defeats Clarkson.

The featherweight division will be featured next as Andrew Fisher (12-6-1) is in action against Artem “The Prospect Killer” Lobov (9-10-0-1NC). Fisher will be making his Cage Warriors debut after a two fight run in Bellator MMA, but he lost both of those fights in the promotion. Lobov has only won just one of his last four fights and this will be his fifth fight thus far in the current year. Lobov should not be competing on the main card for this event in any fashion, but it will be Fisher walking away with a win.

Lightweight division action will be happening next as Paul “Redser” Redmond (9-4-0) battles Alexis “The Furious Kid” Savvidis (8-1-0). Redmond has won six of seven fights under the Cage Warriors banner, last defeating Damien Brown at Cage Warriors 65. Savvidis will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this bout and he does so on the strength of a five fight winning streak. These are two of the better lightweight prospects in Cage Warriors right now, but it will be Redmond leaving with the win in the end.

Up next is a welterweight division affair as “Brutal” Jake Bostwick (15-8-1) takes on Philip “The Honey Badger” Mulpeter (7-4-0). Bostwick is currently undefeated in Cage Warriors competition, last defeating UFC veteran Simeon Thoresen at Cage Warriors 69. Mulpeter has rotated wins and losses throughout his Cage Warriors run, with his last fight being a win over Aldric Cassata at Cage Warriors 65. Bostwick is coming off of the biggest win of his career and he will build on that momentum to defeat Mulpeter in this one.

Headlining this card is a lightweight division bout as Joseph Duffy (10-1-0) faces Damien “Frankenstein” Lapilus (9-3-1-1NC). Duffy is returning to competition after a three year absence, having competed as a professional boxer in that absence. Lapilus will be making his Cage Warriors debut in this bout and he will do so on the strength of a four fight winning streak. Duffy's return to action has been getting a lot of hype in recent days and he will return in spectacular fashion as he defeats Lapilus.
