UFC FIGHT NIGHT 47 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/15/2014 9:03 AM

Capping off another big weekend of MMA action with be another stellar card from the Ultimate Fighting Championships. This particular event will be headlined by a light heavyweight division bout as Ryan Bader faces Ovince St. Preux. Also, Gray Maynard faces Ross Pearson and there is a key middleweight division bout on the card as well.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division affair as Robbie “Problems” Peralta (18-4-0-1NC) compete against Thiago Tavares (18-5-1). Peralta will enter the bout riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Rony Jason at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Brazil III Finale. Tavares will be making his featherweight division debut in this fight, going 8-5-1 as a lightweight in the UFC. Tavares has not competed as frequently as he used to due to injuries and that will affect him as Peralta spoils his featherweight division debut.

A pair of heavyweights will collide next as Shawn “The Savage” Jordan (15-6-0) does battle against Jack “The Outlaw” May (7-1-0). Jordan will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not won a bout in over a full year. May is currently winless under the UFC banner, having dropped a fight to Derrick Lewis at UFC On Fox 11. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one, but it will be Jordan getting the much needed victory.

The welterweight division will be featured next as Seth “The Polish Pistola” Baczynski (19-11-0) is in action against Alan “Brahma” Jouban (9-2-0). Baczynski has only won just one of his last four under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Neil Magny at UFC Fights For The Troops III. Jouban will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is a longtime veteran of the Resurrection Fighting Alliance. Baczynski has been stumbling in the UFC as of late, but he will right the ship in this bout as he ruins the UFC debut of Jouban.

Middleweight division action will be happening next as Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch (17-7-0) battles Brad Tavares (12-2-0). Boetsch has only won one of his last four under the UFC umbrella, with that lone win coming over CB Dollaway at UFC 166. Tavares has won five of his last six in UFC competition, with a notable victory coming over Lorenz Larkin at UFC Fight Night: Rockhold vs. Philippou. Tavares is quickly becoming a middleweight title contender in the UFC and his status is going to rise when he defeats Boetsch.

Up next is a lightweight division attraction as Gray “The Bully” Maynard (11-3-1-1NC) takes on Ross “The Real Deal” Pearson (15-7-0-1NC). Maynard has only won one of his last five in UFC competition and he has not won a fight in over two years. Pearson has won two of his last four in the UFC, with a notable win coming over George Sotiropoulos at UFC On FX VI. Maynard is looking for a career resurgence, but he will not be getting one as Pearson uses his striking to get the win.

Headlining this portion of the card is a light heavyweight division bout as Ryan “Darth” Bader (17-4-0) faces Ovince “OSP” St. Preux (16-5-0). Bader will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Rafael Cavalcante at UFC 174. St. Preux is currently undefeated in UFC competition, most notably defeating Ryan Jimmo at UFC 174. The winner of this fight should be considered as title contender and it will be St. Preux beating Bader to become a contender.
