LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 34 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/26/2014 10:02 PM

There are a pair of MMA events taking place on Friday Night and it will all be capped off with Legacy Fighting Championships 34. The event will be headlined by a flyweight division attraction as Pedro Souza duke it out with Brian Hall. Also, UFC veteran Jonathan Brookins competes in the co-main event and TUF alumni Gilbert Smith fights as well.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division affair as William Walker (3-1-0) competes against Bobby Taylor (3-4-0). Walker will be making his Legacy FC debut in this fight and he has only seen one of his four bouts go to a decision. Taylor enters his Legacy FC debut on a three fight winning streak and he has not lost about in nearly three years. Taylor has seen a major career resurgence in recent years, but that will be coming to an end as Walker gets the win.

A pair of welterweights will collide next as Gilbert Smith (8-3-0) does battle against Ben “The Ruler” Brewer (8-1-0). Smith has won three of four fights since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Bubba McDaniel at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. Brewer will make his promotional debut riding a seven fight winning streak, which includes a win over Bellator veteran Andy Uhrich. Smith has been looking for another shot in the UFC and he may be getting that shot after defeating Brewer.

Middleweights will be stepping into the cage next as Joel “Ice Cold” Cooper (3-1-0) is in action against Grady Hurley (7-1-0). Cooper will be making his Legacy FC debut in this fight and he does so after an almost two year absence. Hurley will also be making his Legacy FC debut in this fight and he does hold a win over UFC veteran Brad Blackburn. Hurley is riding a pretty good winning streak heading into his Legacy FC debut and he will get the win to have a successful promotional debut.

We move to the lightweight division for the next bout as Thomas “The Young Lion” Gifford (7-6-0-1NC) battles Wade “The Hammer” Johnson (7-0-0). Gifford will enter the fight riding a three fight losing streak and he just competed less than one month ago. Johnson will be making his Legacy FC debut in this fight and he is the current V3 Fights Lightweight Champion. Johnson has already held gold in one promotion and he will march towards gold in Legacy FC as he defeats Gifford.

Up next is a bantamweight division attraction as Jonathan Brookins (14-6-0) takes on Austin Lyons (11-3-0). Brookins is a UFC veteran who is currently undefeated in Legacy FC, having defeated Cody Fuller at Legacy FC 29. Lyons is coming off an appearance at Bellator 120, where he defeated Zach Underwood by decision. Brookins was on the verge of retirement before coming to Legacy FC, but he has started rebuilding his career and he will win his second straight as he defeats Lyons.

Headlining this card is a flyweight division bout as Pedro Souza (12-0-0) faces Brian “The Law” Hall (6-2-0). Souza will be returning to action after a year absence and he has primarily competed in his home country of Brazil. Hall will be making his Legacy FC debut in this fight and he has previously fought under the Bellator MMA banner. Souza is widely considered to be one of the best flyweights not signed to a major promotion right now and he will show why as he defeats Hall.
