UFC 177 PAY-PER-VIEW PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/29/2014 8:04 PM

Despite potentially being the most cursed pay-per-view in the promotions history, UFC 177 will still be taking place on Saturday Night. The event will now be headlined by a new challenger for the UFC Bantamweight Title as TJ Dillashaw now defends against Joe Soto. Also, Danny Castillo faces Tony Ferguson in the co-main event and there is a key women's bantamweight division battle.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division attraction as Damon “The Leech” Jackson (9-0-0) competes against Yancy “The Kid” Medeiros (9-2-0-1NC). Jackson will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is a former Legacy Fighting Championships Featherweight Champion. Medeiros will enter the bout riding a two fight winning streak and he has actually won a fight in four years. Jackson is more than ready to be a part of the UFC and he will show why as he makes a successful promotional debut.

A pair of lightweights will collide next as Carlos Diego Ferreira (10-0-0) is in action against Ramsey Nijem (9-4-0). Ferreira has already competed once in the UFC, having defeated Colton Smith at UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Stephens. Nijem will enter the bout riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Beneil Dariush at UFC Fight Night: Minotauro vs. Nelson. These are two of the better lightweight prospects in the UFC right now, but it will be Ferreira staying undefeated in the end.

The women's bantamweight division will be featured next as Shayna “The Queen Of Spades” Baszler (15-8-0) battles Bethe “Pitbull” Correia (8-0-0). Baszler will be making her UFC debut in this fight and this will be her return to action after a one year layoff due to injuries. Correia has already competed twice under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Julie Kedzie at UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Bigfoot. Correia is quickly becoming a top contender in the division and she will get closer to that title shot when she defeats Baszler.

Up next is a lightweight division fight as Danny “Last Call” Castillo (17-6-0) takes on Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson (15-3-0). Castillo has won seven of ten fights in the UFC, with his biggest win coming over Joe Stevenson at UFC On Versus III. Ferguson will enter the bout riding a two fight winning streak and he was the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 13. This is a huge opportunity for both competitors to get this spot on the card, but it will be Castillo getting the biggest win of his career.

Headlining this card is a UFC Bantamweight Title fight as champion TJ Dillashaw (10-2-0) defends against Joe “One Bad Mofo” Soto (15-2-0). Dillashaw will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Renan Barao at UFC 173. Soto will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he is a former Bellator Bantamweight Champion and Tachi Palace Fights Bantamweight Champion. With a fight being put together in such a short time, this one can easily be anyone's bout to win, but I will go with Dillashaw to keep the gold.
