INVICTA FC VIII PREVIEW

By David Tees on 9/6/2014 1:13 AM

Capping off another big weekend of MMA action will be the historic Invicta FC VIII card, as this will be the first non-UFC event to stream on UFC Fight Pass. The event will be headlined by a pair of title bouts in both the atomweight and strawweight divisions respectively. Also, Roxanne Modaferri and Tara Larosa have their third encounter and many top female MMA prospects are in action.

Kicking off the action is a strawweight division bout as JJ Aldrich (0-0-0) competes against Delaney “Lil' Scrappy” Owen (2-0-0). Aldrich will be making her pro MMA debut in this fight, but she did face UFC veterans Raquel Pennington and Kailin Curran as an amateur. Owen will be making her Invicta FC debut in this fight and she made her professional MMA debut earlier this year. These two women have a ton of amateur experience to speak of and Aldrich fought far better competition during those times, that experience will get her the win.

The atomweight division will be featured next as Jodie Esquibel (3-1-0) is in action against Jinh Yu Frey (2-0-0). Esquibel will be looking to rebound from her first professional MMA defeat, which came to Alex Chambers at Invicta FC V. Frey will be making her Invicta FC debut in this fight and she has yet to have a fight go past the opening round. Frey is quickly building a reputation for finishing opponents and she will get another finish as she defeats Esquibel.

More strawweight division action is happening next as Ashley “Smashley” Cummins (3-2-0) does battle against Alexa Grasso (4-0-0). Cummins will enter the bout riding a two fight losing streak and she has not won a bout in over two years. Grasso will be making her Invicta FC debut in this fight and she is a veteran of the Xtreme Knockout promotion. Cummins has fallen on hard times as of late and those hard times will be continuing as Grasso gets the win in the end.

A pair of bantamweights are set to collide next as Irene “Robles” Aldana (3-1-0) stands across the cage from Peggy “The Daywalker” Morgan (2-1-0). Aldana will be looking to rebound from his first career defeat, which came to Larissa Moreira Pacheco at Jungle Fight 63. Morgan will be competing for the first time since her UFC release, which came after a loss to Jessamyn Duke at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale. Morgan has progressed a lot as a fighter since her time on TUF and that will be shown when she defeats Aldana.

Our lone lightweight division bout is next as Veronica “The Heartbreaker” Rothenhausler (1-0-0) dukes it out with Charmaine “No So Sweet” Tweet (5-4-0). Rothenhausler made her professional MMA debut back at Invicta FC IV, where she defeated Katalina Malungahu. Tweet has won four of her last five fights and she made her professional MMA debut against current UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey. Tweet has a huge experience edge when compared to Rothenhausler and that experience will gain her the victory.

We will be moving to the flyweight division for this bout as DeAnna “The Argentine Assassin” Bennett (4-0-0) clashes with Michelle “T-Cat” Ould (7-3-0-2NC). Bennett will be making her Invicta FC debut in this fight and she is a longtime veteran of the Showdown Fights promotion. Ould will be returning to action after a two year layoff, but she does hold a win over UFC veteran Jessica Rakoczy. Ould was once considered to be the next breakout female MMA star before her extended absence, but those times are in the past and it will be Bennett getting the win.

More flyweight division action is occurring next as Tara LaRosa (21-4-0) seeks to defeat Roxanne “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi (15-11-0). LaRosa will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and she first defeated Modafferi at a 2006 Mix Fighting Championships event. Modafferi has not achieved a victory in well over four years, her win over LaRosa came at a 2010 Moosin: God Of MMA event. Modafferi has not been herself in the cage in a very longtime now and LaRosa will get the win to end her losing streak.

Another bantamweight division bout is scheduled next as Tonya “Triple Threat” Evinger (13-5-0) battles Ediane “India” Gomes (10-2-0). Evinger is currently undefeated in Invicta FC competition, having defeated Sarah D'Alelio at Invicta FC VII. Gomes will enter the bout on a four fight winning streak and her last defeat came to current UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey. Gomes is being prepped to face Cristiane Justino later this year and she will show why she is getting the opportunity as she defeats Evinger.

Up next is a bout for the vacant Invicta FC Strawweight Title as Stephanie “Snowflake” Eggink (4-1-0) takes on Katja “Killer Bunny” Kankaanpaa (9-1-1). Eggink will be making her Invicta FC debut in this fight and she is a former Xtreme Fighting Championships Women's Strawweight Champion. Kankaanpaa will be looking to rebound from her first loss in Invicta FC, which came to Joanne Calderwood at Invicta FC VII. Eggink already has some experience holding championship gold and that experience will help her become the Invicta FC Strawweight Champion.

Headlining this card is a bout for the Invicta FC Atomweight Title as Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson (11-3-0) defends against Yasuka “Ikuko” Tamada (15-8-3). Waterson will be making the first defense of her championship, which she won by defeating Jessica Penne at Invicta FC V. Tamada will be making her Invicta FC debut in this fight and this will be the first time she has competed outside of Japan. Waterson is the crown jewel of Invicta FC at this point in time and that jewel will shine as she successfully defends her gold.
