RESURRECTION FIGHTING ALLIANCE 19 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/8/2014 3:50 PM

Sandwiched in between offering from Bellator MMA and the World Series Of Fighting will be another event from the Resurrection Fighting Alliance. RFA 19 will be headlined by a bout for the vacant RFA Middleweight Title as Jake Collier battles Gabriel Checco. Also, Abel Cullum makes his RFA return and a pair of top female MMA competitors are duking it out in the cage.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division affair as John Castaneda (5-1-0) competes against Matt Brown (8-4-0). Castaneda has spent his entire career in Driller Promotions and he has only seen one career bout go to a decision. Brown has already defeated Castaneda, which came by TKO at Driller Promotions: Mecca V this past May. It has only been five months since these two fought each other in the cage, but history is going to repeat itself as Brown gets another victory.

A women’s strawweight division bout is next as Jocelyn “Lights Out” Lybarger (3-1-0) does battle against Rebecca “Becky” Ruth (2-0-0). Lybarger is currently undefeated in RFA competition, having defeated Rosa Acevedo by decision at RFA 14. Ruth will be making her RFA debut in this fight and she has yet to see a fight get out of the opening round. Ruth is known for her finishing abilities and she will get another finish here are she leaves undefeated in the end.

The featherweight division will be featured next as Dan “The Hitman” Moret (6-1-0) is in action against Jordan “The Psycho Hammer” Griffin (8-3-0). Moret will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Luke Sanders at RFA 13. Griffin will enter the fight riding a seven fight winning streak and he has not lost a fight in over two years. These are two top MMA prospects with bright futures ahead of them, but it will be Griffin getting his eighth straight win in the end.

More bantamweight action is happening next as Marvin Blumer (10-4-0) battles Junior Maranhao (9-3-0). Blumer has won three of his last four fights and he holds a win over fellow RFA debutant Matt Brown, the win came via submission. Maranhao is currently winless under the RFA banner, losing a bantamweight title bout to Matt Manzanares at RFA 14. Maranhao was good enough to challenge for RFA gold in his promotional debut and he will get closer to another shot when he defeats Blumer.

Up next is a bantamweight division attraction as Abel “The Silent Assassin” Cullum (19-6-0) takes on Carl “Anishinaabe” Deaton III (8-1-0). Cullum has only fought one time in the last three years, which was a win over UFC veteran Ulysses Gomez at RFA 18. Deaton III will be making his RFA debut in this fight and he is a longtime veteran of the Driller Promotions. Cullum pulled a big upset when he defeated the UFC veteran last month and he will use that momentum to defeat Deaton III.

Headlining this card is a bout for the vacant RFA Middleweight Title as Jake Collier (7-1-0) faces Gabriel “Zangief” Checco (7-0-0). Collier will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak, which includes a win over WSOF veteran Cully Butterfield. Checco has only competed once in the last year, which was a win over Uyran Carlos at Talent MMA Circuit VII. Most RFA champions have been getting ride to the UFC once they win gold and it will be Collier punching his ticket by winning the gold.
