LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 36 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/15/2014 4:22 PM

Sandwiched in between shows from One FC and Bellator MMA will be a loaded card from the Legacy Fighting Championships. The event is going to be headlined by a pair of title bouts that will give that vacant heavyweight and flyweight titles new owners. Also, plenty of other top MMA prospects and a pair of rising female combatants will be stepping into the cage.

Kicking off the action is a women’s strawweight division bout as Michelle Nicolini (2-0-0) competes against Norma Rueda Center (2-1-0). Nicolini has only competed once in the last three years, which was a win over Lanchana Green at Made 4 The Cage 13. Center is coming off of a one fight shot in Invicta FC, where she suffered a defeat to TUF alumni Joanne Calderwood. Nicolini looked impressive in her return to MMA, but she will stumble in this fight as Center gets the big win.

The middleweight division will be featured next as Clint Roberts (5-3-0) does battle against Lenny “The Godfather” Lovato (8-3-0). Roberts has won three of his last four fights and he has previously fought against UFC veteran Carlos Diego Ferreira. Lovato enters the fight riding a three fight losing streak and he has not won a bout in well over five years. Lovato has not won a bout in five years and that unfortunate streak will continue as Roberts pulls out the win.

A flyweight division attraction is next as Rafael “Barata” De Freitas (6-0-1) is in action against Jordan Espinosa (5-4-0-1NC). De Freitas will be returning to action after a year-plus layoff and his last bout came against UFC veteran Antonio Banuelos. Espinosa has won two of his last three bouts and this fight will be his fifth competition thus far in this year. The winner of this bout could be the first to get a shot at the brand new flyweight champion and it will be De Freitas getting that shot.

Featherweight division action will be happening next as Donald Sanchez (29-14-0) battles Charles Cheeks III (7-3-0). Sanchez has won four of his last five fights, which includes a win over Cliff Wright via decision at Bellator 97. Cheeks III is currently winless under the Bellator MMA banner, having dropped a fight to Alex Black at Legacy FC 27. Sanchez has a huge experience edge when compared to Cheeks III and that experience will gain him the victory.

Up next is a bout for the vacant Legacy FC Flyweight Title as Damacio “The Angel Of Death” Page (18-9-0) takes on Brian “The Law” Hall (7-2-0). Page is a UFC veteran who is undefeated in Legacy FC, most notably defeating Elias Garcia at Legacy FC 31. Hall is coming off of the biggest win of his pro MMA career, defeating the previously unbeaten Pedro Souza at Legacy FC 34. Page has seen a career resurgence since his UFC exit and that resurgence will continue as he walks away with the gold.

Headlining this card is a fight for the vacant Legacy FC Heavyweight Title as Cody “The Freight Train” East (8-1-0) faces Vernon Lewis (4-2-0). East will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak, which includes a win over Bellator MMA veteran Nick Rossborough. Lewis will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak and he has not suffered a defeat in over three years. East has faced far better completion when compared to Lewis and that experience will capture him some gold.
