BELLATOR 130 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/20/2014 1:29 PM

There are only two MMA events taking place this weekend and they are both from the two biggest MMA organizations in North America. The first event is Bellator 130, which will be headlined by Emanuel Newton defending the light heavyweight title against Linton Vassell. There are a total of eight fights on the preliminary card, with several top MMA prospects entering the cage.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division bout as Davi Ramos (4-0-0) competes against David “The Caveman” Rickels (15-3-0). Ramos will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight and he holds a win over UFC veteran Juan Manuel Puig. Rickels is a past tournament winner and he once challenged then lightweight champion Michael Chandler at Bellator 97. Rickels is taking quite a step down in competition right now and he will get another shot at a main card bout when he defeats Ramos.

The featherweight division will be featured next as Ricky “The Spazmanian Devil” Musgrave (12-4-0) does battle against Joe “The Nose” Wilk (18-9-0). Musgrave is currently undefeated in Bellator MMA, having defeated Cody Carrillo by submission at Bellator 103. Wilk has only won just one of his last four fights, with that lone win coming over Joe Pearson at a Victory Fight Night event. Wilk has not been looking to good in his last few fights and Musgrave will get another win to stay undefeated in the promotion.

More lightweight division action is next as Cody Carrillo (8-9-0) is in action against Marcio “The Locomotive” Navarro (12-11-0). Carrillo will enter the fight riding a three fight losing streak and he has not won a bout in well over a full year. Navarro has only won two of his last six bouts, with a pair of those losses coming under the Bellator MMA banner. These are two fighters who are in a must win situation and it will be Navarro getting that much needed victory.

A pair of heavyweights are colliding next as Daniel “Big Kansas” Gallemore (3-2-0) dukes it out with Gzim “The Albanian Psycho” Selmani (4-1-0). Gallemore is currently undefeated in Bellator MMA competition, last defeating Frederick Brown at Bellator 113. Selmani will enter the bout riding a three fight winning streak and he has yet to see a fight go to the judge’s scorecards. Gallemore is a better fighter than his record suggest, but he will fall as Selmani makes a successful promotional debut.

Middleweight division action is happening next as Sam “Sammy O” Oropeza (11-2-0) stands across the cage from Gary “Freak Train” Tapusoa (8-2-0). Oropeza enters the fight riding a six fight winning streak and three of those wins come under the Bellator MMA banner. Tapusoa will be returning to action after a two year absence and he once competed against UFC veteran Drew McFedries. Oropeza will be taking advantage of the long layoff of Tapusoa to win his seventh straight fight and add to his winning streak.

Another lightweight division bout is next as Darrion “The Wolf” Caldwell (5-0-0) battles Anthony “La Masse” Dizy (5-0-0). Caldwell has already competed twice in Bellator MMA, defeating both Lance Surma and Joe Pingitore respectively. Dizy will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight and he is a longtime veteran of the Strength & Honor Championship promotion. This bout is worthy of a spot on the main card and it will be Caldwell finding himself undefeated in the end.

Up next is a lightweight division attraction as Aaron “Daddy Long Legs” Derrow (13-8-0) takes on Nate “Ladies Love” Jolly (13-6-0). Derrow has only won just one of his last six bouts, with one of those losses coming to UFC veteran Drew Dober. Jolly is currently winless in Bellator MMA, having dropped a fight to Marcin Held via submission at Bellator 120. Derrow has been on a bad losing streak as of late and Jolly will use that against him to get his first win in Bellator MMA.

Headlining this portion of the card is a heavyweight division bout as Derek Bohi (4-2-0) faces Alex “The Shaved Gorilla” Huddlestone (4-1-0). Bohi has won three of his last four fights and he has yet to have one of his fights go past the opening round. Huddlestone enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak and he is returning to action a year layoff. These are two of the better heavyweight prospects in Bellator MMA right now, but it will be Bohi leaving with a win.
