UFC 179 FIGHT PASS PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/22/2014 10:17 AM

The second of two MMA events this weekend will be the UFC 179 pay-per-view, which is coming from the MMA hotbed of Brazil. The event is going to be headlined by a featherweight title rematch as Jose Aldo again defends against Chad Mendes. There are only two fights on the UFC Fight Pass portion of the preliminary card, with top lightweight prospect Fabricio Camoes competing.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division bout as Fabricio “Morango” Camoes (14-8-1) battles Tony Martin (8-2-0). Camoes has won just one of three bouts under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Tommy Hayden at UFC On FX I. Martin is currently winless in UFC competition, dropping fights to Rashid Magomedov and Beneil Dariush. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one and it will be Camoes walking away with that much needed win.

Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division bout as Gilbert “Durinho” Burns (8-0-0) faces Christos “The Spartan” Giagos (10-2-0). Burns has already competed once in the UFC, which was a win over Andreas Stahl by decision at UFC On Fox 12. Giagos will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is a former Resurrection Fighting Alliance Lightweight Champion. These are two of the better newcomers in the lightweight division right now, but it will be Giagos ending the undefeated streak of Burns.
