TITAN FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 31 CBSSPORTS.COM PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/27/2014 8:44 PM

While there will be some “Trick Or Treating” going on this Friday Night, there will also be some treats for MMA fans on Halloween in the form of Titan FC 31. The event will be headlined by a bout for the vacant lightweight title as Mike Ricci takes on Yoshiyuki Yoshida. There are four fights on the CBSSports.com portion of the preliminary card, with a UFC veteran in action.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division bout as Michael Graves (3-0-0) competes against Rafael “Carioca” Souza (6-2-0). Graves will be making his Titan FC debut in this fight and he has yet to see a fight go past the opening round. Souza has won five of his last six bouts and he will be returning to action after a year-plus layoff from the cage. Souza was on a decent roll before injuries took their toll and Graves will take advantage of that to remain undefeated.

A pair of featherweights will clash next as Joe Barajas (10-0-0) will be battling Sirwan “Zohan” Kakai (10-2-0). Barajas will be returning to competition after being away for over a year and he is a longtime veteran of the Xplode Fight Series. Kakai will also be making his Titan FC debut in this fight and he has only suffered a single defeat in the last six years. This is a fight that should have been a part of the main card, but it will be Barajas staying undefeated in the end.

Up next is a welterweight division attraction as Brock “The Machine” Jardine (9-4-0) takes on Steve “The Creepy Weasel” Montgomery (7-2-0). Jardine is a UFC veteran who enters the fight riding a three fight losing streak and he has not won a bout in well over two years. Montgomery enters the bout riding a four fight winning streak, which includes a win over Rakim Cleveland at Titan FC 29. Jardine is not the same competitor who fought his way into the UFC, Montgomery is on quite the roll right now and he will get the biggest win of his career when he defeats the UFC veteran.

Headlining this portion of the card is a heavyweight division bout as Scott “The Bear” Barrett (15-4-0) faces Kenny “Deuce” Garner (13-7-0). Barrett has won three of his last four fights and that lone loss came to WSOF Heavyweight Title challenger Derrick Mehmen. Garner has only won just one of his last five fights and he is a former M-1 Challenge Heavyweight Champion. Garner has fallen on hard times since losing the M-1 Challenge Heavyweight Title and his woes will continue as Barrett gets the duke over him.
