UFC FIGHT NIGHT 56 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 11/7/2014 9:55 AM

Capping off a big weekend off MMA action that featured five total events will be the loaded UFC Fight Night 56 card. The event will be headlined by a crucial light heavyweight division bout as Mauricio Rua battles Ovince St. Preux. Also, John Lineker battles Ian McCall in a flyweight attraction and women’s strawweight action debuts on the main card.

Kicking off the action is a women’s strawweight division bout as Nina “The Strina” Ansaroff (6-3-0) competes against Juliana “Ju Thai” De Lima (6-2-0). Ansaroff will be making her UFC debut in this fight and she did defeated Munah Holland by knockout at Invicta FC VII. De Lima is currently winless in UFC competition, having dropped a fight to Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC On Fox 12. This is the first women’s strawweight bout to air on the main card of a UFC event and it will be De Lima getting the historical win.

A welterweight division bout is next as Leon “Rocky” Edwards (8-1-0) does battle against Claudio “Hannibal” Da Silva (10-1-0). Edwards will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he does so on the strength of a six fight winning streak. Da Silva is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Brad Scott by decision at UFC Fight Night: Gustafsson vs. Manuwa. Da Silva could be the next big fighter coming out of Brazil and he will show why when he spoils Edward’s UFC debut.

More welterweight division action is next as Warlley Alves (7-0-0) battles Alan “Brahma” Jouban (10-2-0). Alves has already competed once under the UFC banner, having defeated Marcio Alexandre Jr. at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Brazil III Finale. Jouban is coming off of the biggest win of his MMA career, having upset Seth Baczynski at UFC Fight Night: Bader vs. St. Preux. These are two of the better welterweight prospects in the UFC right now and it will be Jouban pulling another upset to get the win.

Up next is a flyweight division attraction as John “Hands Of Stone” Lineker (24-7-0) takes on Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall (13-4-1). Lineker has won five of his last six under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Phil Harris at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Munoz. McCall will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Brad Pickett at UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Brandao. The winner of this fight could be next in line for a flyweight title bout and it will be Lineker getting that big win.

Headlining this card is a light heavyweight division bout as Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (22-9-0) faces Ovince “OSP” St. Preux (16-6-0). Rua has only won just one of his last four fights, with that lone win coming over James Te Huna at UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Bigfoot. St. Preux has won four of five fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Ryan Jimmo at UFC 174. Despite being a late replacement, St. Preux should utilize his huge wrestling advantage to pull the upset over Rua.
