AAW A Monster’s Rage
11/7/2014 – 115 Bourbon Street
By Qumar Zaman

It was a night of several returns as AAW Pro Wrestling Redefined hosted “A Monster’s Rage” from 115 Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park, IL. Before the event began, there was a video that played of Joey Eastman, who used to be a manager in AAW in the past, explaining his new role within the company. After the controversial use of the referee’s discretion during the tag team title tournament match between The Hooligans and Zero Gravity at the Jawbreaker event a few weeks ago, Eastman revealed that AAW asked him to become the company’s Senior Vice President of Operations. The position would have Eastman work alongside AAW owner Jim Lynam and AAW matchmaker Tony Rican to ensure that AAW would operate as efficiently as possible.

1.) The opening match of “A Monster’s Rage” tried to bring a resolution to the controversy at Jawbreaker, pitting both The Hooligans and Zero Gravity against the winners of the tag team title tournament and the AAW Tag Team Champions, Markus Crane and Dan Lawrence, in a triple threat elimination tag team match for the titles. The overconfident Crane and Lawrence boasted about their success at the tournament to their opponents and were swiftly sent out of the ring, leaving Zero Gravity and The Hooligans to duke it out.
Zero Gravity live up to their name as Brett Gakiya and CJ Esparza use their speed and high-risk aerial assaults to beat down their opponents. Gakiya and Esparza flew to the outside against both The Hooligans and Crane and Lawrence. However, in spite of the hefty size, the Cutter brothers are more than just being the Hooligans, as they can bring the pain with some athletic maneuvers that rival those of Zero Gravity. The champs are rather reckless when it comes to their high-risk moves, as at one point in the match, Crane had one of the Cutter brothers in a crucifix while Lawrence flew off the top rope to connect for a powerful attack.
The Hooligans’ manager, Bucky Collins, went on the apron to distract Zero Gravity. The distraction took Zero Gravity off course and when they went back, The Hooligans quickly eliminated Zero Gravity, leaving it between them and the champs to determine who would walk out with the titles. Gakiya and Esparza chased Bucky away, after he cost them a chance at reclaiming the titles. Inside the ring, the wily champs were able to clear one of the Cutter brothers from the ring, leaving them with a 2-on-1 advantage. It was Markus Crane who was able to get a roll-up pin attempt on one of the Cutters, getting the 3-count and retaining the tag titles.
In all of his exhilaration, Markus Crane got on the mic and issues an open challenge, despite Lawrence’s protest after having retained their titles in a triple threat elimination match. There was one respondent, as Ryan Boz hit the ring! The big man looked to have control over the champs, but the numbers game turned against Boz. Once Crane and Lawrence were able to take down Boz, they ran out of the ring separately with their titles in hand.

2.) The next match had Davey Vega taking on Dick Justice, who was joined by the leader of the Iron Curtain, Gregory Iron. Justice began the encounter by taking out his flashlight and blinding the eyes of his opponent, as he chased Vega around the ring before Vega laid face down on the mat for Justice to search his person. Justice didn’t do as good a job as he might have thought, as Vega was later able to pull out a pair of brass knuckles from one of his boots. As Vega readied to hit Justice with the knuckles, Justice put his hands together to form a gun and yelled out “Freeze!” to stop Vega. Justice then grabbed the brass knuckles away from Vega, pulled out a clear plastic bag and put the knuckles inside, then handing the bag over to the referee. During the course of this situation, Vega went over to one corner of the ring, and hit Justice with a wooden post that Justice had used to carry his American flag with him to the ring. That knocked out Justice, allowing Vega to get the easy pinfall.

After the match, Gregory Iron got on the mic expressing his disappointment in Justice for not defeating Vega. Iron berated Justice for having kept him as part of Iron’s group, and told him to leave the ring so that he may learn from Iron on how to get the job done.

3.) Gregory Iron welcomed his opponent for his match, Marek Brave, to the ring with a little bit of an excuse. Iron used his physical disabilities due to his cerebral palsy to allow for two members of his Iron Curtain, Joey Martini and Benjamin Boone, to join him in the match to make it a 3-on-1. This obvious disadvantage didn’t sit well with Arik Cannon, who came out to aid Marek Brave in his match. So, a one-on-one match would eventually become a 3-on-2 handicap match.
As the bell rung for the match to begin, all five men went to the outside and brawled. The fight led its way to the expansive bar area at 115 Bourbon Street, where both Brave and Iron stood atop the bar and fought. Brave took control over Iron, leading Brave to suplex Iron from the top of the bar and onto both Martini and Boone who were stumbling nearby. Arik Cannon joined Brave on the top of the bar and shared a toast with a celebratory beer. Cannon and Brave lead their three opponents back to ringside to continue their match, but the numbers game work against the duo. This leads to the involvement of Dick Justice, who managed to be just a bystander throughout the brawl, to be introduced in the match, albeit not by his own choosing. Boone instructed Justice to use a steel chair to hit Brave, as Martini held onto him. An uncomfortable Justice went ahead, but unintentionally hit Martini with the chair. Boone was upset at Justice for hitting Martini with the chair, but Justice couldn’t bear the verbal abuse of another Iron Curtain member, so he threw the chair at Boone. With Boone holding the chair, Brave delivered a superkick to Boone, knocking him out. Brave covered Boone for the pin to get the win in the handicap match.
Afterwards, a further disgusted Gregory Iron gets on the mic. First, he yells at a fan nearby the bar where he was suplexed earlier. Then, he has Justice get in the ring where Iron kicks justice out his Iron Curtain group for good. Iron then has Boone and Martini beat up Justice with the steel chair. Iron picked up the weapon that Davey Vega used to hit Justice in their earlier match and hit Justice with it again. The Iron Curtain left with their befallen former member alone in the ring.

4.) The AAW Heritage Championship was on the line in the next match as the champion Heidi Lovelace faced another member of the Iron Curtain, Christian Faith. It was a major mismatch for Lovelace, as the smaller champion faced the much more imposing Faith, who had the height and weight advantage sizably in his favor. Lovelace took a lot of assault from Faith, but always managed to kick out of any pin attempts. Lovelace was able to gain control over Faith after a low blow, giving her a chance to mount some attacks on him. However, Faith did make an attempt to damage Lovelace, trying to hit a powerbomb from off the top rope. Lovelace was able to reverse it and hit a reverse hurricanrana on Faith. As Lovelace went for the pin, Gregory Iron hit the ring. She got up and hit an inziguri kick to knock Iron out of the ring. With Faith still down on the mat, Lovelace went to hit a frogsplash getting just a two-count. Lovelace tried once more to sustain an attack on Faith, but he got back up and lifted her into the air, delivering a powerful discus punch to knock Lovelace out. Faith made the pin, got the 3-count, and became the new AAW Heritage Champion. Iron got back in the ring and celebrated with Faith, the lone member of his Iron Curtain to gain a victory on the night.

Following the match, a video was shown of former AAW Heritage Champion Matt Cage as he was on vacation in Las Vegas. Cage promised that whoever would walk out as the AAW Heavyweight Champion that he would set his sights on them and warned that he would become the next Heavyweight Champ.

5.) It was a huge return for the Wolves, Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards, as the celebrated tag team were ready for action inside an AAW ring. They were initially scheduled to face the Monster Mafia, but Ethan Page and Josh Alexander were unable to make it to the event due to car problems back in Canada. Davey announced the news and said that they were open to any challengers. There was one man quick to answer the challenge, and it was someone whom Richards had met before in AAW, that being Michael Elgin. Elgin came out alone, and he was scheduled to face Chris Sabin later that night, but decided that it would be best to partner with Sabin to answer the team’s challenge.
Sabin and Richards begin the match, but each one-on-one matchup would be tantalizing on its own. Given their strong chemistry, the Wolves were able to isolate their attack on Sabin as the match progressed. Their two-on-one attack kept Elgin from tagging in, but Sabin was able to sneak away and bring in their stronger half of their team. Sabin and Elgin were able to turn the tables on the Wolves, as they double teamed Richards on the outside. Elgin looked to put Richards down inside the ring with one of his patented standing suplexes. Richards entered the ring twice to break up the attempt, but Elgin held on to Richards both times before finally hitting the suplex. Davey was eventually able to tag in Edwards, and he went on the attack as he hit a two-man hurricanrana on Elgin and Sabin. It was like this throughout the match, with several aerial attacks to go along with either two-on-one attacks or the rare one-on-two attacks.
Towards the end of the match, the Wolves hit simultaneous submissions as both men used the single-leg crab to force a tapout. Edwards locked it in on Sabin, while Richards had Elgin in the move, but only for so long as Elgin broke out. Edwards let go as the Wolves took Elgin out of the equation. That opened up a two-on-one attack on Sabin. Richards picked Sabin up readying for a tombstone piledriver, but before he hit it, Edwards delivered a powerful kick to the head of Sabin. That combination put Sabin down for the count, as the Wolves walked away with the win.
Sabin left the ring while the participants shook hands, as the crowd applauded the effort shown in a nearly 20-minute long match. Elgin thanked AAW for being the rare outlet to have all 4 men wrestle together in their ring.

After intermission, a video was shown of an upset Shane Hollister describing his phone conversation with his valet, Scarlett Bordeaux. Scarlett had told him to get back her title after she was knocked out at Jawbreaker by Hollister’s opponent, AAW Heavyweight Champion Eddie Kingston. Hollister went as far as to say that the name of the show, A Monster’s Rage, was not referencing the match between Rhyno and Keith Walker and not even Kingston, but rather the rage inside Hollister himself.

6.) The grudge match between two monsters was ready to take place. It was Keith Walker, joined by Nikki Mayday, taking on the “Gore” machine that is Rhyno. The two men immediately brawled on the outside and made their way through the crowd and also to the bar. After the two men had their fun away from the ring, they went back in and punished one another. It took some time for Rhyno to hit that Gore, but it didn’t appear he caught Walker with full might. Walker was able to kick out after two, surprising Rhyno. The shocked Rhyno tried to hit another Gore, but Walker side-stepped it and hit a powerful lariat. Walker was able to get that 3-count and get the victory in the battle of the two monsters.
With the ring cleared, we see video of Keith Walker already pleased with his win over Rhyno. Walker reminisced about having won the AAW Heavyweight Championship nine years ago at Windy City Classic, and with the tenth edition of the event coming next month, he was eyeing that same prize he once held. Walker went so far as to say he wants a title shot at Windy City Classic 10.

7.) It was time for the main event of “A Monster’s Rage” as the AAW Heavyweight Championship was on the line between the former champion, Shane Hollister, and the current champion, Eddie Kingston. Hollister went at it by himself, as he looked to secure the AAW Heavyweight Championship for the third time. Hollister appeared to be so extremely motivated and ready to start the match that he stopped the ring announcer from doing his job. With the match underway, Hollister quickly attacked Kingston. They took the conflict out to ringside, as they went from pillar to post beating up each other. Kingston looked to have Hollister woozy, leaning him up against a ring post. Kingston looked to hit his backfist, but Hollister duck away, and Kingston connected his right hand with the metal post.
Hollister took advantage as his opponent had an injured hand, and even brought in a couple steel chairs. Kingston, even while trying to mount an attack, struggled to withhold the pain in his hand from stopping him. Kingston delivered four quick chops to Hollister in the corner before he the pain forced him to stop. Shortly after that, Hollister went back looking for more weapons, but couldn’t find anything. Instead, he tossed Kingston onto the stage entrance.
Towards the end of the match, Hollister used those steel chairs on Kingston. He hit one over Kingston’s back, then laid the chair over the fallen Kingston. Hollister went to the top rope and landed feet first with all of his weight onto the chair on top of Kingston. Appearing to have the match in hand, Markus Crane went to the stage, but Hollister told him to go back. That little distraction allowed Kingston to recover, as he hit a brainbuster on Hollister. Kingston was then able to fight through the pain and hit that backfist on Hollister, knocking him out. Kingston made the cover and got the pinfall to retain his title.
After the match, Markus Crane went into the ring as he tried to help his fallen friend. Hollister was upset and shunned Crane’s help in getting back on his feet. An irate Hollister seemed to have the title won, had it not been for Crane’s presence at ringside, but instead he walked to the back alone and without the belt.
