STANN ON DOS SANTOS VS. MIOCIC: “THE RESPECT THE PHOENIX CROWD SHOWED THEM WAS PERFECT FOR THE KIND OF EFFORT THEY PUT OUT.”
Stann and Cormier Break Down UFC FIGHT NIGHT Fights, Plus White Interview
LOS ANGELES, CA – The following quotes and video links are from tonight’s FOX SPORTS LIVE UFC FIGHT NIGHT: DOS SANTOS VS. MIOCIC postfight coverage on FOX SPORTS 1. The show was hosted by Karyn Bryant, with Daniel Cormier and Brian Stann as analysts.
UFC ON FOX analyst Brian Stann on Dos Santos vs. Miocic: “He came out and tried takedowns and really worked hard for them. He didn’t get a lot of them, but it wore down the arm speed of Junior Dos Santos. Where he failed on takedowns, he capitalized on striking. He gave everything he had at Dos Santos and you saw flashes of brilliance. Then Dos Santos was able to get the takedown, land some heavy shots. Dos Santos landed bombs. How these two men stayed standing and the respect the Phoenix crowd showed them was perfect for the kind of effort they put out tonight.”
UFC ON FOX analyst Daniel Cormier Dos Santos turning the fight: “Dos Santos started landing shots to the body. As the fight went on, he was landing them with a little more conviction. Stipe got tired. Stipe’s game plan a hard game plan to implement and you get tired doing it. Dos Santos started to find openings as Stipe got tired and he started getting his range. In the end, he showed the experience.”

UFC president Dana White on if the judges got the right winner between Junior Dos Santos and Stipe Miocic: “I think they had it right. I think Dos Santos won. He took a lot of damage in that fight. A couple of those rounds were close. If that was a three-round fight, Stipe might have won two rounds to one, but Stipe kind of shut down at the end.”
White on if Miocic’s stock went up in this fight: “It sure did, he just went five rounds with the baddest dude in the world not named Cain Velasquez.”
White on Dos Anjos vs. Diaz, and if he’s upset with Diaz: “There’s a laundry list of issues with Diaz. But I’ll say this, he’s tough to knock out. Dos Anjos should have been arrested for attempted murder there. Diaz needs to get his head together or retire. But we’re in business with him right now still.”
White on if Dos Anjos will get the next title shot against Pettis: “Anthony Pettis talked to me today and said he’s ready for whatever. As long as Dos Anjos comes out of this healthy, he’s next. Anthony is ready now.”
White on Joanna Jedrzejczyk on getting the next strawweight title shot: “She absolutely is and I’m a big fan of her.”
