UFC LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION JON JONES TEST’S POSITIVE FOR COCAINE; ENTERS REHAB

By David Tees on 1/6/2015 6:02 PM

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones has tested positive for benzoylecgonine, which is a primary metabolite for the drug cocaine. The test actually occurred prior to UFC 182, actually it happened on December 3rd and the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) got the results on December 23rd. Jones went onto compete this past weekend at UFC 182, successfully defending his title against Daniel Cormier via unanimous decision.

Since the test was an “out of competition” drug test and the NSAC has stated that cocaine is not a performance enhancing drug (PED), Jones may not even be fined, stripped of title and his bout with Cormier may not be changed to a no contest. Jones has reportedly entered a rehab facility, although the location and name of that facility have not been revealed. Jones next title defense was supposed to be against the Alexander Gustafsson/Anthony Johnson winner, that bout will headline UFC On Fox 14 at the end of this month.

The UFC has not issued a statement of any kind on the situation as of this writing, but one is expected to be released shortly.
