BELLATOR 132 PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS

By David Tees on 1/15/2015 2:00 PM

The three major MMA organizations in North America are all running events this coming weekend and everything kicks off with the first Bellator MMA event of 2015. Bellator 132 will be headlined by a featherweight title bout as Patricio Freire defends the gold against Daniel Straus. Also, former WSOF Featherweight Champion Georgi Karakhanyan returns to Bellator MMA to face Bubba Jenkins and a rematch is set for the card as Houston Alexander again faces Virgil Zwicker.

Main Card

Main Event

Bellator Featherweight Title Fight

Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (22-2-0) (Champion) vs. Daniel Straus (22-5-0-1NC)

Freire will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Pat Curran by decision at Bellator 123. Straus is a former Bellator Featherweight Champion as well, both defeating Pat Curran for the belt and losing the belt to Pat Curran. Freire won the first meeting between himself and Straus, which came in the finals of the season four featherweight tournament. Straus has won seven of eight fights since that loss to Freire, with wins coming over UFC veterans Jason Dent, Alvin Robinson and Strikeforce veteran Justin Wilcox. Straus is not a slow started like Pat Curran and his wrestling skills are going to give Freire problems, Straus grinds out a five round decision to regain the gold.

Co-Main Event

Bellator Featherweight Division Fight

Bubba “The Highlight Kid” Jenkins (8-1-0) vs. Georgi “Insane” Karakhanyan (23-4-1)

Jenkins will actually be making his Bellator MMA main card debut in this fight, as his previous seven bouts in the promotion have all taken place on the preliminary card. Karakhanyan will be returning to Bellator MMA after a three plus year absence, having won the WSOF Featherweight Title in between appearances. Jenkins will enter the fight on a four fight winning streak, most notably defeating Poppies Martinez at Bellator 122. Karakhanyan is also a former Tachi Palace Fights Featherweight Champion, having never actually lost the championship. Jenkins is a fighter who could become the next big thing in Bellator MMA, but Karakhanyan is a submission wizard and he will tap out Jenkins in the second to make a successful promotional return.

Bellator Light Heavyweight Division Fight

Houston “The Assassin” Alexander (16-10-1-2NC) vs. Virgil “Rezdog” Zwicker (12-4-1)

Alexander fought Zwicker the first time at Bellator 129, a fight that ended in a controversial draw after a variety of accidental nut shots and fouls. Zwicker has not actually won a five in just over two years, but he is a veteran of Strikeforce competition as well. This fight should be nothing short of a slugfest and it will be Zwicker walking away with the victory he should have gotten the first time via first round TKO.

Bellator Welterweight Division Fight

Fernando “The Menifee Maniac” Gonzalez (22-13-0) vs. Marius “The Whitemare” Zaromskis (20-8-0-1NC)

Gonzalez is currently undefeated in Bellator MMA competition, last defeating UFC veteran Karo Parisyan at Bellator 127. Zaromskis has only competed one time in the last two years, which was a victory over Vaughn Anderson at Bellator 119. Zaromskis is a far cry away from the fighter he once was in the days of DREAM, Gonzalez submits him in the second round to continue his meteoric rise.

Preliminary Card

Chris Herrera over Luc Bondole

Fabian Gonzalez over Albert Morales

Derek Anderson over Danny Navarro

Jonathan Rivera over Steve Kozola
