UFC LAYS OUT NEW DRUG TESTING POLICY

By David Tees on 2/18/2015 9:41 PM

Following a rash of drug test failures from such notables as former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, Nick Diaz and Hector Lombard, the UFC has introduced a new drug test policy. The promotion will now randomly test all the fighters on the roster, whether they are scheduled for a fight at the time or not, the policy kicks into effect on July 1st. Although the UFC cannot hand out suspensions in states/countries where an athletic commission is in charge, they will no push the commission for bigger penalties.

The UFC also stated that if a champion fails a drug test, that champion would most likely be stripped of their championship. The promotion is also going to take a bigger role working with various drug testing companies in order to better test the fighters when July 1st hits. The UFC is also prepared to commit well over a million dollars to the cause, which is more than they have ever spent for drug testing in the past.
