Bigfoot vs. Mir Preview, Plus Mir and Dillashaw Interviews on UFC TONIGHT

LOS ANGELES, CA – On UFC TONIGHT, hosts Kenny Florian and Daniel Cormier are joined by bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw. They break down the upcoming FOX SPORTS 1 UFC FIGHT NIGHT: BIGFOOT VS. MIR and interview Frank Mir and Dillashaw. Plus, Karyn Bryant and Ariel Helwani add reports.

UFC TONIGHT Host Kenny Florian on Anderson Silva testing positive for PEDs: “This is not good at all. For Anderson Silva, it really hurts his legacy. Now we’re thinking, how’d he do it? How did he get so good?”

UFC TONIGHT Guest Host TJ Dillashaw on Silva testing positive: “I feel bad for the fans. To see this put on his name forever, I hate to see it for the sport and the fans.”

UFC TONIGHT Host Daniel Cormier on the UFC’s new testing policies: “I heard that they are going to continue to test and weed out the guys who are cheating, not only the fans, but the sport. Dana White said they are catching them. It doesn’t matter who they are, you’re going to get caught. More financial penalties need to happen. Out of competition testing needs to happen. That’s the key. Show up at a fighter’s house and test him. Once a fighter relies on PEDs, there’s no going back. There’s a chance they’ll lose everything. These guys have lost themselves in them and can’t compete without them. And they will get caught.”

Dillashaw on harsher penalties for testing positive to PEDs: “To me, I can’t afford to miss more than nine months – for me mentally and my name. It’ll put it in some guys minds that it’s not worth it. I don’t want to be known as a cheater. I’m glad they’re doing this. We’re going to see some changes in some guys - guys who have been on it won’t compete the same again.”

Florian on the UFC’s efforts to address PEDs today: “They said all the right things. The big thing is the out of competing testing. Then fighters can’t cheat it. Will the UFC add in some bigger financial penalties? Some fighters make so much money that they say if they are banned for nine months, who cares? But ban them for two to four years, this is huge. Also, what about recreational drugs? The UFC didn’t address this. But overall, this is going to change the sport forever. We’re going to see a much safer sport.”

Ronda Rousey’s reaction on the UFC’s announcements: “I’m really encouraged by it. It’s very serious. I love that they’re doing out of competition testing and everyone on the card. This is getting more similar to what I did growing up, getting randomly tested at all times. The more we’re tested and higher penalties, the happier I am.”

Cormier what Bigfoot Silva has to do vs. Frank Mir: “Bigfoot is a guy who can do everything. We saw in his fight against Fedor, he can wrestle. If he gets you down, it’s over. He can knock you out, like he did with Travis Browne. He needs to mix it up. Don’t follow the pattern. If he starts the fight with a leg kick, Frank Mir will catch it and throw the overhand left. Mir has improved his standup and now will stand with guys. If he gets his hands on you, he can put you out.”

Florian on what Bigfoot can do against Mir: “Bigfoot has to get off to a fast start. He has to move forward and take the fight to the mat. But he doesn’t want to be on his back, he wants to be on the top. He has excellent ground and pound. He will be at a speed disadvantage. Mir is a tricky southpaw. Southpaws give guys problems. I think Mir has more ways to win. He has to use everything, show variety, and mix things up with Bigfoot.”

Frank Mir on how he’ll fight Bigfoot: “I think Bigfoot has good counter right hand and a long reach. If you’re aggressive and take it to him, you can be successful. But if you let him off the hook, you’ll be unsuccessful.”

Mir on how he has dealt with his current four-fight losing streak: “I took some time off. It was an easy solution. Close friends and training partners tell me the four guys I fought are highly ranked and tough. But I took time off and addressed some things to be a better athlete and be at my full capability.”

Mir on his motivation now: “I have the same motivation as I did in the beginning. I want to compete. I love to fight. The lifestyle makes me who I am. The accomplishments that come with it are just a result of doing what I love to do. But I’m not doing it for records. It’s the lifestyle I’ve lived for last 14 years.”

Mir on if he wanted to fight in Brazil: “I just spent the summer hanging out in South America, and spent a week in Sao Paulo. I had a real warm welcome. So that gave me the notion I could fight there. If I wasn’t fighting a Brazilian, here in Brazil, I think I’d be the crowd favorite.”

UFC TONIGHT Insider Ariel Helwani on UFC 187 headliner and co-main fights: “Memorial Day Weekend, it’s a big weekend for the UFC. On May 23, Dana White confirmed with me that Jon Jones vs. Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson is going to headline UFC 187. The co-main event is Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort. Also, Donald Cerrone vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov will be on the card.”

Helwani on Phil Davis’ new UFC contract: “Sources close to Phil Davis said his last fight was the last fight on his current deal. He’s currently negotiating with the UFC, but they haven’t come to terms and he doesn’t have a contract right now.”

Dillashaw on his rematch with Renan Barao: “I’m super excited about getting him behind me. This is the third training camp I’ve had to fight him. He’s too big for the weight class. I’m going to force him to move up a weight class. I’m too fast for him.”

Dillashaw on if he’d fight Urijah Faber: “I don’t want to have to fight the guy. He got me into this. We’ve been super close for five years. He’s been a great mentor for me. It’d be a tough thing for me to have to do.”

Dillashaw on if he’d fight flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson for two million dollars: “I’ll fight anyone for two million dollars. I’d fight DC. I’ll fight him for a whole lot less. For him to say that is ridiculous, and a way to get some talk going. That’s not going to happen. I think it’s a way to hype some things up.”
